About this label "Choosy":
The government is saying that there are cleaning jobs available everywhere, but not many locals are keen in such jobs.
While it is true that there are choosy people around, but look at this way; if you are better skilled, and experienced in a certain field of work for so many years, not many would relish the idea of working as a cleaner. It does something to one's "sense of worth".
Ok, so what if every jobless man takes up a cleaner's job, but toils on bitterly just to survive. Will this help PAP win votes?

Can you imagine how much a product will cost if manufactured entirely in Singapore? It's just not feasible. -

Why is it that the nordic European countries, like Finland, Denmark do not have this problem? it the same thing as credit card which many ppl are abusing it and in the end causes themselves to declare bankrupt. This are the ppl that should blame themselve rather then other becos they never bother to check if they can support their lifestyle.

as time change strategies will change too, there is no fix strategy available that can be used for century without changing. 40 years ago how many degree holder is there in singapore? 40 years as of now how many we have? back then singapore got nothing but labour so as a developing country we can provide cheap labour in the manufacturing industry. that is where we goes initally.
but now, if we are going to ask our ppl which are much more educated now to do manufacturing work like 40 years ago, the salary will be different. isn't it? if you are a dip. holder, will you want to get paid like a primary six holder? i'm sure you don't.
i am not saying the blame is push to us, but we must bear a part of the blame because it a resultant effect from what we desire. -

You should ask HDB why they stop building 3 room flats. There is a demand for 3-rooms but they are making people buying 4 rooms and tying them into bigger loansit the same thing as credit card which many ppl are abusing it and in the end causes themselves to declare bankrupt. This are the ppl that should blame themselve rather then other becos they never bother to check if they can support their lifestyle. human nature is they will tend to blame circumstances rather then themselve for the hardship they are going through.
A problem usually has two facets, the Macro factors like economy and goverment policies, and the Micro factors like personal decision. These two factors are usually intertwined.
Do you know bank policies have made credit more easily avaliable today?

Later after the government started talking about high pays for ministers it has conveniently forgotten that it was a public housing authority and began to raise the price of 3-room flat to $150,000.
At such inflated price, HDB was no longer selling low-cost housing but it has kept to its past low-cost public housing income ceiling condition.
How ironic that HDB cannot even sell off its stock of flats any more except through the resale market way of auctioning or tender it is still sticking to the old income ceiling and low-cost housing conditions. -

yeah singapore policy is getting lax, but compare to other countries we are still pretty good. the main thing is we are adults, we need to be responsible of our actions, we can't always expect to be spoonfeed on every issue. being a working adult and yet dunno how to handle own finance, who can we blame? no one but ourselves. goverment dun have the responsibility of telling you how to spend ur money.
there are many thing that can use "you reap what you sow" to explain. i myself came from a family that used to live in a 1 rm flat own by my uncle, but we don't blame circumstances, we work hard to make our life better no matter how hard life is. now we are not rich but we are still living happily in our 3 rm flat.
millionaire are not people that bow to obstacles, they are ppl that go the extra miles on how to go about making their life better by working hard and looking for opportunity.
remember we came to this world with nothing, so how much we gain in this life is all by our decision. if we want to live comfortable, we need to put in the amount of hardwork that is equal to the standard that we desire. there is no easy way out. -
i agree on what you say that we shouldnt bow to obstacles but we should also try to understand how the enviroment works and influences us. It useless just to work hard in this new economy. The Indians and PRC are cheaper. The danes and the fins work smart by niching in areas, thats why they still command high wages. we are human so are the ministers that made up the goverment, we will make mistakes even if we don't want to. so somrtime it can't be help. in fact comparing the severity of the mistakes, i think singapore still not the serious loh.

The new chief of EDB should learn from the past mistakes and make quick and effective decisions:
(1) Identify all the new value-adding technology start-ups we want
(2) Holistically apply total solutions like the Taiwanese and Koreans have done to prepare a group of technology passionate students to graduate in new technology courses and draw them back to lead or support new technolocy start-ups to create new jobs within certain targets every year.
(3) Ride on all our strategic resources i.e. empty lands, empty factories and idle surpluses to get our highly educated unemployed, middle-executives retrenched from the technology companies of the past years and get them to support and man these new technology companies and start new ventures.
Previously there were too much hypes on scholars and giving them jobs ..at scholar salaries and at the end none of them are creating jobs or making changes to our upgrading to new value-adding economy.
The past economic model was too theoretical based on some assumptions that by spending monies on buildings or infrastructure constructions we will somehow solve unemployment problems but this old model did not work during the last two recessions.
Now there should be new directions and new practical broad-based education to ride the upcoming third-wave technologies. Less on assumptions and academic and more on practical application of knowledge at all level and new technologies which work.
Computer-related manufacturings and software developments and hand=phone upgrades are all areas we can tap on since we have many educated graduates in these fields from the past who may be now unemployed and staying at home to look after children.
So there should be Sun Sze Art of War ministers to lead and create holistic start-ups from A to Z to bring out these industires as what Taiwan did in the early 1970s to start up their computer industries.
Problem is: our ministers may be uninformed or lacking passion in such areas. So at the end we may be unable to move from here to upgrade our economy and we will have to keep giving some excuses about lack of results or our market being too small etc in such areas. -
