Yes, no one owes anyone a living, but if medical costs is the main reason employers are not hiring older people, then it's the government's fault. They should reduce medical costs for older people who MUST work to support themselves.
Everybody ages, so don't be snappy with comments.
Fully agree!! The way I see the over 40s around me getting out of job, I making preparation for myself. In the meantime, I am making those younger than me prove that they can indeed run faster, and if running fast means working smarter. And you have to give up some values, like loyalty, which I think companies these days do not deserve.Originally posted by ShutterBug:In short; I suggest that the government buck up and make hiring older workers for employers less of a financial strain, by subsidizing thei medicals.
At the rate babies are produced these days, I'd say Singapore is going to be choked full of old folks in the decades to come!

An article in Lianhe Zhaobao highlighted that in the near future, the majority votes are in the hands of the aged citizens. Hope this is a good reminder to the government.

Fully agree.Originally posted by ShutterBug:Look, even if she has a PhD, at 40 she'll still be hard put to land a job anywhere.
Basically, we have a sick economy here. Employers are fearful of older workers because of HIGH MEDICAL COSTS!!!
So, watch out, all you out there. Age will do you in, if our government doesn't do something effective about it.
The work market is getting better n maybe the lady is trying to get work she liked.Originally posted by AF2005:i think the lady need to get in line with reality of the working world and not use a degree as an excuse to get job. Relevant industryand non relevant degree holders are plentiful. not to mention those with ordinary MBA.
Job market is very competitive.
Most of us will probably have some experience by the time we hit the 40s. It is rare for someone to have no experience in any fields and just have a degree (I expect a Master or more). Excluding learning disabilities, this is rare.Originally posted by reyes:what the purpose for the uni studies at age 40s? personal achievement or better career prospect? if it latter, then she ought to know at that age without relevant working experience but a degree aint gona take you far.
