Lol, many Singaporeans 'worship' America (they wish to migrate there with the mindset that how GREAT the country is) but I know the 'truth' so I don't 'worship' U.S. now.Originally posted by PRP:Do u mean u don't mind unfair election?
I personally can't stand ppl who blindly worship America either. Especially those who turn around and try to deny their own skin colour later.Originally posted by RoyFang:Lol, many Singaporeans 'worship' America (they wish to migrate there with the mindset that how GREAT the country is) but I know the 'truth' so I don't 'worship' U.S. now.
With so many Singaporeans 'worshipping' America do you think they give a damn about Singapore. If they feel that the election is unfair, they just pack up and go to America.
After your comment, have u done something positive?Did u support my 'political reform No.1'?I am looking for supporters to my idea but there are few in this forum.Originally posted by mistyblue:election here is a fisaco.
Basically we have lost our freedom of speech. We can't protest without informing the police (I'm not sure about this).Originally posted by spinsugar:Singapore govt may suck up to America, Singapore teens may dig Hollywood blockbusters and western food.. but this doesn't mean many Singaporeans worship America and want to pack up and go there.![]()
Do Singaporeans have the choice???? Still???? There's so many things goin on, nothing is smooth sailing...Originally posted by spinsugar:While the USA's election system has its pros and cons, the people there get to choose. The people get to question. Politicians there have enough leeway to put up a real fight.
He certainly has the credentials. However, he only backbencher nia. I think cabinet ministers like Tony Tan are preferred.Originally posted by bangkokboy:Mmmh wondering if our dear Mr Chiam will run for president? Will be interesting to see if he is qualified or not...
Ues,u are wrong. A fair elections mean fair to the ruling party & also to the opp. parties.Do u understand the word "fair"?Surely u do.Originally posted by NoSuchPerson:Interesting topic huh...
Let me see. There is no such thing as freedom as far as I can see. When given the power of freedom, human tends to abuse it and make it ugly. Power comes great responsibility and that is what human usually don't care as long as they don't get "hurt".
We keep saying that this is not fair, there is not fair. The question is, what do you mean by fair? The government is unfair when they increase GST by 2%, the government is unfair when utility bills are increasing. Is there someone who says that its unfair that the government give grants to startups, give you a good transport system, give you food and a roof, give you lower income tax and such. What I want to prove here is not what the government is giving or taking but what do you mean by fair. From what I've been noticing, we meant fair by "so long I get what I wants means fair and I don't care where you took it from" and "so long you take things away from me means unfair and I don't care where you give it to" concept. Am I wrong?
Please give me your opinion. Btw, am I out of topic?![]()

Do you think our president can do much?Originally posted by bangkokboy:Mmmh wondering if our dear Mr Chiam will run for president? Will be interesting to see if he is qualified or not...
No, I was thinking maybe the "independant body" will have some reasons to disqualify him..Originally posted by Devil1976:Do you think our president can do much?

So stop caring about this shit that can never be turned into gold. At the end of the day, is Singapore progressing? The quality of life of its citizens? The economy? The stability of society? The very fabric of life that links every part of this Island together?
I THINK SINGAPORE IS PROGRESSING, SO SHUT UP ABOUT THIS ELECTION FAIRNESS CRAP.
Calling for fair election is crap?So unfair election is OK?Originally posted by moonhub:I don't give a shit about opposition and all the other stuff.
It is fair, as long as it is constitutional. And so far, the Singapore Parliament has done nothing, pass no bill, approved no action that is unconstitutional because of this very system of parliament makes sure that the CONSTITUTION CAN BE AMENDED AT THE ABSOLUTE WILL OF THE RULING PARTY SO AS TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING THIS PARLIAMENT DOES, PASSES, AMENDS IS CONSTITUTIONAL, INCLUDING THE AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION.
SO STOP WHINING ABOUT ELECTIONS ARE NOT FAIR. THEY ARE FAIR. THEY ARE VERY FAIR. THEY ARE FAIR AS LONG AS THEY ARE CONSTITUTIONAL AND BY ALL MEANS POSSIBLE THE ELECTIONS ARE CONSTITUTIONAL, AS STATED IN THE CONSTITUTION!
You may not understand this, but this is all that is. This never ending loop that traps all of us inside. I have a friend graduated from Raffles Junior College, who is an assistant to the MP in Hougang. All she said is "Politics is dark."

I think jeyaretnam won in the Chinese dominant constituency so it defeats whatever you have said. I think perhaps the worst racist is PAP themselves because they keep saying they Singaporeans would only vote for their own race. They ply on people's fear to maintain the GRC system.Originally posted by moonhub:If we all have single seat constituencies, what will happen?
In Singapore's context, this will be disastrous. Why?
Singapore's majority is Chinese. Now, what if an Indian MP tried to get elected in a constituency, let's say, 60% Chinese, 30% Malay and 10% Indian? I know anyone with brains would put this aside but MOST PEOPLE WILL NEVER DO SUCH A THING. THEY WOULD VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE THAT THEY THINK THEY ARE COMFORTABLE WITH. And to put it matter of fact, no matter how kind-hearted this Indian MP-wannabe is, he/she will never have a chance (well, a long shot if he/she knows Chinese). WHY WOULDN'T THOSE CHINESE VOTE FOR HIM OR HER? BECAUSE HE/SHE IS NOT CHINESE.
It is just that simple why we have to have GRCs so that we can get them mixed with Chinese and allow them to get into Parliament.
What's worse, a parliament with two opposition or a parliament with two non-Chinese?
But different kind of governance a country progress in different ways. Under democrazy, creativity flows naturally. Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong are all cultural powerhouse and also known for their savvy business man. Singapore has progressed, but differently from the rest.Originally posted by moonhub:So stop caring about this shit that can never be turned into gold. Another classic PAP propanganda.... Its easy to spot PAP propaganda because they tend to have a common source, so their arguments are the same.Originally posted by Xephone_xenon:PAP believes that no one can do a better job then them.
Thus the election is made in a way whereby ppl will vote for them.
And IMO PAP is doing a rather decent job.
You all can gurantee that other opposition can do a better job then them.
If you all cannot. I dun think there is a point to continue this FAIR ELECTION thing.
No i cant gurantee you.Originally posted by kilua:Another classic PAP propanganda.... Its easy to spot PAP propaganda because they tend to have a common source, so their arguments are the same.
If the opposition attracts more seats in one election, the next one they will attract more talented people, challenge the ruling party and run it better. Cant you see how a two party system work?
Can you gurantee, given fair chance and a fair election, the opposition in 3 elections cannot run the government better than PAP?
So are u saying the govt purposely make the election unfair so the PAP can win?Originally posted by Xephone_xenon:PAP believes that no one can do a better job then them.

Shouldn't the govt let the ppl decide whom they want ?If the voters were all stupid, might as well don't have election at all.Originally posted by Xephone_xenon:No i cant gurantee you.
But i can 80% gurantee you that the opposition wont do a better job then PAP.
PAP has been doing this govening shit for like 50years.
In terms of experience. The opposition already lose liao.
I mean. At least PAP can ensure most of our citizens to be able to have roofs above our head. 3meals a day blah blah.
So what you want to take risk and go make some brand new inexperience opposition our new goverment?
Is this a complain just for the sake of "fair election" or that you guys actually think that if we give oppositions a chance they will be a "better" goverment?![]()
