singaporeans should stand together. people power is stronger than the govt. if we are together, they cannot do anything. a country make up of people. if we all don't pay tax, they will not have pay. the problem with us is we don't support each other. we are not a democracy society. i think it is becoming more like communist. the govt say what, it is likely to implement. what we say is just for show, just to show we are a democracy society. the opposition party has so little members in parliament, it is more likely the bill will be implementedOriginally posted by reddressman:I am newbie.

I will always support and vote for the party that is Truthful to the People.
Any party that is untruthful about how money is spent can never get my vote.
I don't care how good this party is. As long as its not honest and truthful to reveal investments, I will not support it.
Why would I support dishonesty?
I rather support a less capable but honest garmen.
A lot of sinkaporeens scared about many things when they vote.
Their weakness will sabo the rest.
A liar is a liar and a leopard never change its skin.
To me, non-disclosure is a Big Turn-Off ! I will not support. -

'Black Box' is a problem.
'Balck Box' with little transparency is not a permanent good way, and usualy leads to dangerous crisis when a new generation update the old.

I agree that whatever govt say, it is likely to implement since they have little opposition party in the parliament. They have the most power.

Currently studying in melbourne and keeping close to latest news on the election in Australia.
Personally, I could feel being an australian (even i am a "pure" singaporean) after engaging with the different views of the two main parties i.e. the coalition and the labor. I could feel for the future of Australia is at stake in this election and i finally understand what it mean by being a citizen of a nation. it is not about being proud of the stability of the nation, it is not about rushing to get this year's NDP tickets. It is about being able to engage in the future of the country and knowing that you are holding onto something powerful - a cast of vote.
It is time for singaporeans to think about the future of our nation. The future of a nation is not simply restricted to the economic well-being, but rather the political atmosphere. As i read through the Singapore parliamentary reports, and compare it with Australian federal parliament where the two parties exert their pressure onto each other, I yearn greatly for the day where Singapore could reach a two party system where the incumbent will have to fight for survival, not just being talented over whatever they are doing, but also endure the political onslaught during the election. Looking at the current list of Post 65 PAP members, I wonder how many of them are capable in achieving the latter.
Oh well, maybe it is time to change our constitution, from a nation "Singapore" to Temasek Holding and be listed under Nasdaq, if Singaporeans are not willing to give the opposition a chance in the next election. Once the GRC syndrome is overcome, talented personnel who aspire to be a politician will think twice during the PAP tea invitation, as he or she will have more options.
Lastly, with regards to the idea of opposing as being an opposition party is flawed. An opposition party does not necessary needs to oppose the incumbent on every single issue. I believe that an opposition party as an alternative party of possible different views and beliefs. Just take a look at this year australia election where "me-tooism" are part of the election compaign, the opposition labor party seem to be on its way of breaking the coalition hope of attaining the fifth term in government.
Let's embrace the term alternative over opposition in the next election. -
Agree with you there, however i do believe that alot of people do not bother. Buying power in Singapore is dropping, partly due to China. They are faced with either voting PAP or vote for an almost non-existant opposition. I believe alot follow the concept of "better the devil i know than the devil i don't". Alot may believe that if they vote opposition their buying power will dwindle. They know (or i hope they do) that there is a severe imbalance in the gahmen but most want fast gains and they do not think a change in gahmen will affect them this generation till they are old and it does not matter too much. They go fer the carrot ie watever $ they give out or watever upgrading they do fer their beloved HDB. Becoming competitive with China is important i agree with that. But i do not agree that the pay should reflect that. Can SG also compete with China in terms of cost of living? Does SG want to BE china lol Then give us china pay and londons cost of land?
Anyway all this is intended to make sg peeps aware of the state of politics and its imbalance. All the drama i stated is exagerated. Nobody point a gun at your head and said you must vote for certain Party. Don't insult the intelligence of Singaporean, they know which Party can serve them well and which party only talk big. If 67% of singaporean wants PAP so be it, that is called Democracy; the minority have to respect the wishes of majority even if is 49% against 51%. Does it means if all singaporean vote for oppositon party, then the election is called fair.

I wouldn't want the opposition parties to fully run this country as I doubt they have what it takes. We are a small country and one wrong move and we're done for. However, it would be really nice to have some significant opposition voices too.

check and balance is totally out of the question.
how many of us will follow our hearts and vote what they want, or they just follow the majority which they deem is safer.
I'm also heard rumours about voting is not anonymous though no evidence supporting it. I believe its anonymous as you need to state your IC number there. No name on the paper.
Of course, opposition cant and will not be able to take over control of the country in the next 20~40 yrs or even not at all. depends on the maturity of our citizens, the government's care for people.
Whoever says opposition are gonna take over the government NOW must be trying to make panic and confuse e voters with this kind of statement.
We are still nurtured in way to follow our leader, our government as they will be always choosing the best option for us. It may be true it the past, right now the issue is the young generation which were not planned.
Singapore grow too fast for Singaporean to follow the trend, even though our infrastructure are going to the maturity state, our people like me, still trying our way to get on track with the pace.
Hope more education funds, upgrading funds coming from the government to ease the pains for us. Funds are meant to help, please do more advertisement for people to know how to get the funds meant for them.
With the rising expenses, yet having the same old petty salary, and telling us to save for retirement, its very tough for us to cope with.
Those who are low~mid income will need your help, pls hear the voices.
Last, I will only vote for those who serve the people full heartedly, hear their voices, and full respect to the people she/he serve. -

I hope in the coming GE 2010/11, all oppositions can form an alliance and contest all 84 seats. Don't let them walkover, in this way we can judge the popular votes they can achieve, the previous 66.6% is not accurate because some wards did not contest. If 51 to 49 , then somebody will get heart attack during post election press conference, ambulance must standby, hehehe

I seriously like what the government have contributed to the growth of Singapore but recently, the standard really dropped like flies. Now Singapore have become a haven for the rich and hell for the poor. Middle class people is neither here nor there. Work hard just enough to pay for high living expenses.
Feedback to government and they tell you to downgrade your lifestyle if you can't manage. Haiz...

The problem is... the check and balance in Singapore is almost non-existent. Take note that you guys here complaining about PAP or individuals from PAP may be facing defamation charges if those PAP individuals want to. The way laws are made and enforced in Singapore needs to be improve. I mean even some aspects of our Constitution are not been followed. Part 2 14) of the Constitution states that all citizens have the right to assemble peaceably and without arms. However, if you gather with too many people, you risk facing illegal gathering charges. wow....
