whats your point here?
is it to show us how noble you are that you wear your school uniform proudly?
or just to make a point that school should do away with school inform since so many kids dun wear it proudly?
firstly, its nt noble to wear uniform proudly cos its wad all students shld do in the 1st place...theres nothing for me to show off cos many others also do the same...
my main pt is tat if u dun wear ur uniform smrtly, then dun tell ppl u r proud of ur sch or sch uniform...sounds so hypocritical...i am nt devaluing gd grades...i am also nt saying tat smart uniform dressing is the onli way to show a person's character. we noe tat ppl always look at outward appearance. so looking at the uniform dressing is a very common thing. like i said, members of the public wun noe wad kind of person u actually r since they dunno u. but ur uniform which they can see clearly wil tend to give them a certain impression abt u n ur school's discipline.
my point is to show dat different pple has different view points abt "dressing" properly.......Originally posted by digicharat:whats your point here?

hihi, i think u miss the point.. what despondent is trying to say, is thatOriginally posted by stellazio:why should u let ur dressing define u?
does this means that all succesful business men have to wear suits??
bill gates doesn't seem to like wearing suits..but do people comment on his dressing??
seriously why bother about how others think of us?![]()
Tell me which pharse do adults say and follow ...Originally posted by fishyang:oh man. and i am sure really meant it when they taught us to not judge a book by its cover![]()
Mirrors, mirrors.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:actually what I think is damn funny is when I look at the sec sch kids today, and see them walk around with their hair not tied up, shirt poofed out, skirt folded at the waist to make it shorter, pants pulled down to the hips etc etc
and they think they look cool...
but actually 10 years ago we all dress like that liao loh...... no difference also.
Also, what is an image of a good student? SO what if they dress slopply. Does that mean a good result student cannot have other dress sense. This is what is wrong with society i think, all too often people just look on the surface of stuff, ok here is a clean look smart looking person, handsome too and judge the person as good thou he may be a pevert or serial killer. A person who dress sloppily maybe be a genius. I feel that society placed too much emphasis on dress. If there is no such constraints, so much more resources can be saved if we don't need to wear tie or jacket, or leather shoes. Just what we feel comfortable in.Very well said...I think uniforms must be the lamest invention ever. Uniforms does not make us look like students at all...it make us look like nerds. People from the university does not wear uniform, but generally, they look like students and not nerds in every way to me.
As for wearing uniforms sloppily and looking better.. honestly I thought that way too.. hurhuhur when I was 18... but having a 10 years additional experience, I am aghasted at how horrible it must have looked then. Heng all those who saw me in it also grow up liao so we are all in the same conspiracy.
so r u one of those who feel sloppy dressing is a no no? i notice its normally the older ones who wil be aghasted by sloppy dressing...n some r sloppy during their younger days...onli when they come out to work do they change their mentality
yea...to add on to that...some people might wear clothes just to attract attention etc...more work for the discipline master/mistress to decide which types of clothes are suitable...maybe in uni they are more matured so they are given the benefit of wearing their own clothes?Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:actually it's interesting.. I once asked a group of secondary school students whether uniforms are a good idea or not... and I was really surprised to see some answer Yes.. and one of their reasons was this... that students from low income family could have a standard garment to come to school without worrying that what they wear is not acceptable to their peers, also, when they come to school they shouldnt be thinking about choosing WHAT to wear everyday.

So far, 11yrs (12 if u wana include this yr) of wearing uniform is not a chore. Can u imagine waking up every morning to think "what to wear today?" I think the school doesn't want us to give another excuse for being late.Originally posted by ruixiangz:Very well said...I think uniforms must be the lamest invention ever. Rules are not meant to be followed. We are not machines. what is the fucking use when we become regurgitating machines. At the end of the day, your boss looks at whether you are innovative and productive not whether you are a mindless robot. Discipline is buitshit once you leave school n the army. Serious.Originally posted by cheem-.-:Haha I don't want to sound like some comformist nerd but heres my input...
I feel ultimately right, all those rules, CCAs and theories you learn in school, 99% percent are useless when you grow up. However, what they train is the brain's ability to conceptionize difficult issues, discipline and awareness. Its the mental training and values that matter, especially finding direction in the chaotic adult world of no black and white.
Its like Wushu. I mean, today we all use M-16s and fire ICBMs with nukes. What can Wushu do??? The trick lies in the mental and psychological training. Wushu and many martial arts are supposed to instill discipline and mental focus in the mind, that could prove useful in stressful conditions, whether in Business or leadership.
Now, what about uniform? It can be argued we should have personal freedom, we can wear uniform in whatever way we want. But ultimately, the message is to instill a sense of discipline in certain issues that seem useless. Like if you represent an organisation, political or business wise, sometimes your boss gives you an instruction you may not understand, but to coordinate complex operations sometimes you just need to follow. I do not approve of following instructions blindly, but sometimes life is so chaotic you need to plunge thru the mess and take step by step. Life is sometimes liddat lo.
Thats the real purpose of school and uniform and rules actually. Or so I believe.
