despondent, science always go hand-in-hand with maths. You cannot fail maths yet want to do science. There are a lot of statistics, a lot of calculations.Originally posted by despondent:to fireice:
yes we always had one...we study every kind of subjects since primary school...humanities, sciences, languages, maths, art, music...since when were we allowed to choose wad we realli want? in a specialised system, u get to choose wad u want...soem of us may want science but nt maths...or vice-versa...since when maths n science were separated from each other? from primary to jc they are always offered tgr
I won't dispute the fact that Singapore's music industry is small.Originally posted by despondent:in case u do nt noe, science dun go hand-in-hand wif maths in america...i am one who excel in maths but do badly in science...so wad then? do i have to give up maths since schools dun allow me to take science when i am bad at it? science n maths go hand-in-hand cos its always been like tis in singapore...nt in foreign countries. if one is talented in music n come from a poor family...how is he gonna to expand his talent when singapore's music industry is so small? wait for sponsors? wait til he is older n pay his way there? by then, he wil be many yrs behind other fellow musicians!
At lower level, as seen in my secondary school days, maths and science basically have no relationship. It's only at higher levels that you see the relationship and regret that you can't pursue science/maths because you are weak in either.Originally posted by despondent:so wad can the system offer me when these 2 subjects muz go hand-in-hand? cos of science, i had to give up pursuing maths at a higher level...n if one is reallli gd at science for instance, y muz he study humanities, which is of no interest to him? in amreica, if u realli like a particular area of studies, u can pursue it all the way without disturbance from other non-related subjects...look at singapore maths olympiad...gold medal winners at a tender age...but unheard in the end in the world of maths...y? cos they were nt given enuff opportunity to expand their talents...we onli have 24 hrs a day...to study 8 other subjects nt directly related to maths takes precious time a way from expanding the mathematical talents...same can be said for any othe subject which ppl excel in...
Haha, I wonder if you got read I prefer humanities to be NOT COMPULSORY.Originally posted by despondent:but humanities is made compulsory...cos of science i couldnt pursue maths after Olevels...well, all i can say is tat onli those who have been victimised by the system wil give it serious tot n be critical towards it
They are doing something about it, but it is still focused on exams. We shall wait and see the results.Originally posted by despondent:ok...anyway, i noe of many who say the system is too rigid n too exam-focus...its true the govt is doing sth abt tat nw...n if there wasnt anything wrong wif the system, y is the govt trying to change it albeit gradually? its also difficult to make a change cos singaporean mindset has alredi benn moulded according to the old system over the past 40 yrs. tat explains y we can nvr catch up wif amreica n japan...even china is catching up wif us...
Adapting and following is different. Do you think they will follow our style of education? They only adapt and modify to suit them.Originally posted by Janedoeslove:but do u know tt even america education system is adapting our MOE maths syllabus?
HAHAHA. they even say good to our education system!!!Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Adapting and following is different. Do you think they will follow our style of education? They only adapt and modify to suit them.
I agree with you.Originally posted by despondent:i agree wif janedoeslove tat no system is perfect...n tat singapore is diff. from america...however, y r we diff? cos of tradition n culture...its the govt who set the culture n tradition for the ppl to follow...so nw tat they r changing the system gradually, doesnt it goes to show tat our system needs revamping? how many specialised ppl have we produced? most local entrepreneurs dun even have degrees!!! top geniuses ard the world mostly dun have degrees...sim wong hoo the ceo of creative technology onli have a diploma...while i agree tat nt everyone can be like these ppl, i shake my head at the mentality of locals...its nt abt whether u can become one eventually...its abt ur mentality towards wad u desire n want to do in life...too many ppl r studying for the sake of studying...reason being we dun enjoy wad we r studying n have no interest in the subjects...so wad r we studying for? grades? is tis education? or juz mastering the art of memorising n the art of getting gd grades?
my my...what an ignorant bigot you are.Originally posted by Janedoeslove:H
SINGAPOREANS n AMERICANS r diff la, wat kind of system do u wan to follow? they can grab a gun as n when they like...
i don't know about that, but i'm sure singapore could do with a much better english language syllabus.Originally posted by Janedoeslove:but do u know tt even america education system is adapting our MOE maths syllabus?
