Its interesting to note that a foreigner, Fininnish Mika Johannes Sampovaara, was only fined $1000 to a charge of causing hurt to madam Tan She who was floored when punched and a photo in ST showed Mdm Tan bruised face and eyes.
Some years back a Singaporean school principal was jailed for about 6 years for punching a lawyer.
Why the unfairness against Singaporeans? We have seen this happen time and again in our courts, Are we in a country where there are 2 laws, one for locals and another for White foreigners? -

no such thing as justice, but once a while they will glorify an example to show their "justice".

The $1000 fine is grossly inadequate. The chap should have been also jailed for at least a week as a deterrent to others.

remember last time a bunch of stupid ah beng whacked up somebody who asked them to shut up in the cinema, and the chap turned out to be a lawyer ? ... the whole lot of them got packed off to jail too eh ... -

The mitigating circumstances, origins of the case and root cause determine whether the defendant deserves a jail and fine or a mere fine.
Sympathy of press photos simply BIAS the case and will not affect the final decision of the Judicial Commssioner. -

One of which is the expat British woman who mowed down a korean mother and her two kids in heavy rain on the main road. She was found INNOCENT to the utter disgust of the Korean Father who lost his entire family. -
Does "convicted in court for causing hurt" = lose PR status?

if i remember correctly the plaintiff was offered a big amount to settle the case out of court. but she asked for 50k and the defendant refused.
now he was just fined 1k. -
According to the news,the maximum punishment for "causing hurt" is $1000 fine.Perhaps the report erred,there may have custody punishment.

So long as the CJ remains in office, our judicial system can only be termed as EFFICIENT, but certainly not world class, as it remains unable to stay apolitical in the process of justice.
Let's hope he steps down after this term. -

His subsequent defence: that he was protecting his wife etc was mitigating crap.
On the other hand, there is nothing to say the plaintiff did not ABUSE him after he kicked the golden retriever. So she may have been partially responsible for her own injuries.
And then after the expat agreed to extend her further compensation, she gave a wild figure of 50k, which was rightfully rubbished by his lawyer (she claims the money was to 'teach him a lesson' and that it would have been donated to charity, but can anyone truly believe that?).
Really, if she's disappointed, she has only herself to blame, seeing that she had the opportunity to be properly compensated but spit in his face instead. -
she should have accepted the compensation to settle the case out of court.

He changed his mind and chose to have a criminal record instead. Maybe the court took this into consideration before sentencing and hence the leniency. -
Luckily he didn't settle out of court for $50K, si beh bo hua. Then that lady thun tio liao. si beh heng ar!
