Malaysia should be "Federation of Malaysia", no? -
Malaysia is a federal constitutional monarchy. It is federal because each individual state has its own state government with some significant degree of autonomy, answering only to the central federal government only on major issues such as foreign policy and defence. It is a consitutional monarchy because the head of state is the King (Yang di-Pertuan Agong) whose seat is rotated between the various Sultans of each state.

The change from Royalty to Republics had happened in Iran, when the Shah was deposed, and replaced by the Council of Ayatollahs, making Iran into a Republic.
It not only happened in the Afro-Middle Eastern Countries, but also with the deposing of older Royal Families in France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, Russia and its sattelite republics. -

I guess this is the greatest contribution by Mahathir to the Malaysian government. The government can now function without the interferance from the royal families. He lived in a palace in Kampong Glam.
He sold away his rights of kingship over Singapore.
In return, the Govt pay him (and his decendents) $$$$ every year.....up till today....

GOT.......but kenna conned.......so today they live in HDB flat, Changi Prison, Drug Rehab Centre...........but still carry royal title of TENGKU.......... -

if he can be conned and live in changi prison, drug rehab center, it is fortunate that he is not a king anymore. -
Then if the Malaysians do get offended and started violent protests and what not, somebody should tell them to get a life.

plus, msian and singaporean police have 'always' been on 'good' terms with each other regarding criminals. i don't think msians willingly want a killer on the loose in their home ground...even if its a msian/foreigner. at least they are sane in this matter. -
Oh yeah..... I know Malaysia is constituitional monarchy because they got a King who is Sultan from each of the Malaysian states. Then they rotate every reign. Then during the tsunami disaster the papers also mention Royal Malaysian navy etc.
I think its because right... some people confuse the democracy in Malaysia with republic. Many republics are democracy but not all democracies are republics, like UK and Thailand etc.
I think right, its an error on their part of journalists lah. Because they report on so many countries they blur liao. Don't need to get hyped up over these. Don't make such general assumptions.
I thought Singapore's sultan used to be the Johor one? Then later Singapore was sold to the British, then decades later in 1860s it became crown colony already. Maybe my history facts are wrong? -

Johor Sultan was not from royal family.
He was the Prime Minister to the Sultan in Singapore. Then he moonlighted as a pirate chief cos he was broke. The British then bribed him with title of SULTAN in return for giving up piracy, and betraying his pirate friends to the British. Peace came to the traders in Straits.
The new sultan and his kids became very Anglo......some even married Ang Moh women........note the Johor prince who whacked the Brazillian party on Pulau near Tioman looks like white punk..... -
next time in m'sian paper they will put address our dear lky as Emperor Lee.
