Singapore is an economic interest of theirs.

I think it is alrite to spend so much to defence. Most of the ppls previous said stuffs, I'm not going to repeat again......but, there is one clear advantage that all of u all have left one. Singapore spends lots of money mainly into R&D which in turn help to reap lots of profits.
For example, ST made SARS detection kit and makes thermo-imaging devices to check the body temperature during the crisis.
Next, it is the weapons made locally tat is sold abroad. Eventhough Singapore may never compete with US when it comes to weapon sophistication nor Russian for bargain price weapons.....Singapore have carve out it's own niche.
I think they are gearing themselves to become specialize in SE Asia weapon requirement.These are some examples.

Personally, I think Singapore should upgrade her naval and air capabilities, eg. installation of long range missiles and more powerful destroyers and submarines. At the same time, the commando unit should be expanded. -
If I'm the minister for Defence, I would acquire Nuclear weapon for our defence. Instead of wasting so much tax payers' money on small things and change and change after when the weapons are outdated. Don't you think that I'm more brilliant than the ministers. As I have also mentioned about the space tour programme earlier. Now, singapore is moving on to have a spaceport. So I can foresee better than any of our ministers here. We sell them only small arms and these actually helped stabilised the region when the armed forces of these nations fought seperatists in their countries.
Any wonder how peace was won in Acheh once our U100 and CIS 40mm were licensed in Indonesia? They became so effective in rooting out those seperatists with their greater and more accurate fire power that they never had before.
The small arms are not a threat to us, we have even better weapons that we don't sell to them. -
May be how you spend can be affeced by how you perceive your strength and weakness in relative to what is around you and beyond. Or what you think your enemy perceive you. Two way traffic. Build solid rapport to minimize doubts.
