Can we depend on the numbers offered by the Statistics Department ?
In their report for 2005, the following was given -
Labour Force ('000) : 2,367.3
Employed Persons ('000) : 2,266.7
Unemployment Rate (%) : 3.4
(Seasnoally adjusted)
IF - the numbers are not 'seasonally adjusted' the Unemployment Rate will be between 4.2495 percent and 4.4438 percent.
In a separate MOM report for 2005, it was stated that -
" On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the overall unemployment rate was 2.6% in December 2005 "
This will represent a difference in accuracy of between 38.818 percent and 41.491 percent - when comparing the unemployment rate reported by the Statistics Department and MOM.
We will need a new thread to track the number of companies - MNCs and SMEs - that are closing their operations or downi-sizing, so as to get the reall numbers that go unreported or deliberately given a small column.
All participants in this Speakers' Corner - who are staying in all areas of Singapore - can contribute the employment situation in the neighborhood of their homes or their workplaces.

Frankly speaking, I got a feeling that Mr Obviousman is a high salaried man.

In a balance sheet where Figures, Formulas, Finance Years Phasing, Bad Depts, etc can do a big change to present budget. Need no expert also can understand the logic.

I am no a accountant also can tell all these.

Frankly speaking, I am not sure what is that figures actually reflects. Just need to go to any meet the peoples section, can tell the number.

Look at the number of declared poor man on paper each days and sum them up, will give the no. of poor singaporean each years.

It's for you to believe and got nothing concern about me. Some are my clients or friends actually got paid cut. (Just recently). Need no prove, already provened.

As for the other, I would blame you. As it may not concerned you or me either. To see it than believe may be too late - better to be prepared than to wait for it to be realised. To get wet than know it's raining - one or 1000 had already be chopped.
For me, those figures and whatsoever, is just like an stock broker selling his share. Normally, I will thanks him and then ask him to sell it to other buyer. Cheers!
