Prime minister should be chosen by people not the cabinet?

The selection of candidate for position of prime minister is an issue of paramount. This concerns the direction of where Singapore's future is heading. I agree that there are many good leaders in PAP. Are we getting the best leader in PAP to become prime minister? And position of Prime minister should be chosen by people not the cabinet?

The ability of one person can't change thing much. The people of many can. I would still prefer that the PM be chosen by the cabinet which is usually the best candidate of the cohort to shoulder the heavy responsibility.
The role, leadership and capability of the PM is far more important and citizens might not be able to gauge accurately the abilities of such a candidate if PM was to be chosen by vote.
The election for presidency can still remain because of the unque role it play in the nation that is to oversee entire parliamentary process, holding veto vote on weighty issue and safeguarding of nation reserve.

LKY definitely has a very influential say in the country's main affairs still. Even if he does not participate actively, the top guns in the PAP are all his henchmen. He may not directly govern the country, but certain core policies like GRC, anti-welfarism, bilingual policy cannot be changed without his consent. Because many of SG main policies are outlined when he was still PM, and any challange to them would undemine his political credibilty. He will definitely hold on to power in PAP. LKY will never leave SG politics till the very day he passes on.
Whether LHL is the best man for the job, it is debatable. He is certainly able, bue he has plenty of experienced ministers and Old guard members to prop him up also. I just feel its kind of unethical that LHL is PM when he entered politics via walkover elections. Am I wrong to say LHL has never been challaged directly in this ward before? -

Give a thought about it.
We already got President elected and yet you wanted Prime Minister to be elected too.
Who will be qualified under the selection criteria.
Those qualified may be only concerned to committ in building their own career and their own life style.
We can't even show the opponent that how much we loved our President Nathan .
Desperse to show our support and yet it's was a walk over. -

Also, just to add, a leader who is highly capable would not be effective if his or her team is weak. Likewise, a tyrant with strong team members would not be optimal either.
The point that I am trying to bring across is that, there is only one post of leadership. More importantly, there must be a strong team with a capable-enough leader and strong team members. How can a pyramid stand with a remarkable peak and weak bricks below?
