Would you fight for Singapore if the Singapore Govt decides to increase to the population to 6-7 million?
I wouldnt stake my life for a place where there is little difference between foreigners and locals. Singapore is one of the few uniques places where it has a large foreign workforce and yet relies on a reservist army from citizens to defend it.
If the population increases to 6-7 million in future, i am not ashamed to say i would flee Singapore in times of war. Why should i defend the assets of foreigners?

i dunno whether how i will react when a war comes... but i think giving a time like this, it is a duties for me to guard and protect my love ones n friends here.

When really war it will affect the whole region. the best place for me to be is to stay here, as a reservist in time of war yes I have to fight but I get priority for food and I have backing, if you run you become a refugee in other words you have no country or government to protect you.
Somemore if your commander point a gun in your face and tell you to fight u want to run? u run ah ... somemore who is to say the country that you flee to won't be affect by the war and their own citizens also trying to survive, if so many people run to that country their resources and food supply dwindle if they have to share with foreign refugees what makes you think they will welcome you, what makes you think their soldiers willing to die to "protect foreign assets" when you also not willing. -
But the easier way is to flee with your families. if you migrate to another country ... would you expect that country's chaps to fight for you .... cos you're only a PR/Foreign Talent/job snatcher to the natives there anyways ? .... just like the PR/Foreign Talents/job snatchers in Singapore ? ...

first, i got the impression from your original post that you're talking about fighting for your country ... it conjured up images of fighting to defend your land, your loved ones, your flag ....
so now fighting for your country is just a vocation ? a job, to you ? ....

No, i wanted to highlight the problems of having foreigners.
Its okay to have lots of foreigners as long as you dont impose additional duties on citizens. If there is a need to impose additional duties on them they have to be accorded addtional benefits like the US reserves.
Btw US reserves is not a full time job, you get called up for training once in a while just like Singapore -

the duty of defending a country has always fallen onto that country's citizens, and the citizens alone, it is the same with any country that you go to ... this is the privilege and burden of citizenship, and something you cannot escape from anywhere you go, which ever country you belong, not having to serve in the military does not mean you're excempted from that burden.Originally posted by Calvin86:No, i wanted to highlight the problems of having foreigners.

If you look around countries that require national service do not have a large foreign work force, so the issue of unfairness does not arise.
Coutries like US which has a large foreign workforce, compensates its local citizens for addtional duties imposed on them.
Can you name a country that impose national service on its citizens, has a large foreign workforce and does not accord its citizens addtional benefits?
Morever Singapore has a short history and its roots are weak. We are a merchant city, and like traders, we move to the place that has most benefits. -

But first, i will try to disagree with the government's policy of increasing the local population through immigration of foreign talents. Until all options are used up, Singaporeans should hold a glimpse of hope.
If foreigners have the same rights as Singaporeans, then there is no sense of nationality/identity. Then its very hard to even keep locals from staying here.
If the late Mr Rajaratnam saw this trend, I wonder what he would say.
(...pledge ourselves as one united people...regardless of race, language or religon...)
