When Roman great empire was built from the small city state of ROME, the strength of the empire was built upon the pride of an average ROME citizen. The excellent political system in ROME at that time, promise protection and basic needs for her citizens. The fallen soldiers' families would be teaken care by the gov. Slaves or foreginers who had distinguished themseleves and contribute to the empire would be granted citzenships.
This rules still applies today. Just think about it

I thought the only sensible response to such question is what this Calvin86 has to contribute to our country, like he were a key player in the defence of singapore (without him the SAF would collapes at the sight of an enemy).

I wouldnt stake my life for a place where there is little difference between foreigners and locals. Singapore is one of the few uniques places where it has a large foreign workforce and yet relies on a reservist army from citizens to defend it.
If the population increases to 6-7 million in future, i am not ashamed to say i would flee Singapore in times of war. Why should i defend the assets of foreigners?

Refer to the rally spoken by WP..on the raining day..I think they are wrong about defencing singapore. Actually PM Lee and his group of Ministers cared for their supporter. This is why they choosed to have their rallies in door in case of rain and light strike.
Only thing, I can say is that supporters for WP and other parties are really..."Bu Kia Shii"
We can alway tell the invader or terrorists no to attack us on raining days..why no.. -

NO ONE should fight. Its not right. Its not the way to settle differences, no matter what any government tells you or does.
If the people resolve not to fight (on both sides) then the government will have no choice but to setlle differences - let the powers that be that decide to go to war personally go and battle it out themselves. Why should innocent life be wasted becos of politics and one person's ambitions?
