) Honestly, I got a feeling that most singapore does not really know how the system is being run. It's could be they are not explosed to or prefered no to know. Ask ourselves, why are those Ministries are for? MAS, MOE, MOM, MOL, LTA, MHA, MOD, MTI, MND, and many "M". (Not mentioning other A, D or Ps). Do you know how the system works and where they located? Have you find out or are you working inside. Do you know that there is someones named perm sec, registrar, etc? Who are they and what is their roles and duties, etc. Heard about superscale? Grade A - maybe G or H.
Find out yourself, the respective Ministries will have their website, missions and visions etc stated clearly for singapore. Some websites even listed the duties and the post of the persons in charge.
I am not borned to know all this, it was my interest to lead me to find out. Finally, same. No offence. -

We have Eric Tan, a General Manager of a foerign financial institution, Brendon Seow an executive in SIA, Yaw Shin Leong, an IT sales manager, Rahim a veteran politician and Chia Tilik, a lawyer. What so "disappointing" about them? They are really a good mix to me!
I guess one should not be overly presumptious by just looking at their paper qualifications and professions. You will have to judge for yourself at the election rallies whether they could be your representative voice in parliament or not.

I can bet with u with GRC the opposition cant even win one seat, because it is difficult to fight PAP due to its machinery and good track record. PAP can offer 5 year township renewal plan, lift upgrading et......, but opposition cant because they dont have resources, and the opposition candidates are new to the electrodate due to lack of publicity, so I can safely say that this coming election, the oppososition can win the most 2 seats of SMC.Originally posted by snow leopard:imminent? or do you mean remote? in 2001 they contested 55 seats which is about the same number this time and they only got two seats. in 1997 they contested 36 seats and also got only two seats. even in their most successful 1991 where they contested 40 seats they merely got 4 seats. year after year they can't even get a handful of seats, what imminence are you talking about?

You are right GRC can't even win one seat cause I don't recall single seat GRC. Win 3 GRC enough leh. 2 already got $500, maybe next time with 20 get $10000 each years. You want or no. I am looking forward to collecting money and go "song song". -

i do not deny that when you compare academic qualifications and professional accomplishments, PAP candidates on the whole stand out a lot more. but that is not to say that opposition candidates are all butchers and fishmongers. most of them have degrees too and are well meaning people like you and me. why brandish them simply because they are not the "elites" of this country? how many "honest mistakes" have our elites made already? how many more can you tolerate?
you know what happened to those who stood against the PAP the last, last election? one got severely bankrupted, one had to escape the country. did these people commit heinous crimes? why so ruthless? against such odds, which so-called "qualified" candidate would be stupid enough to stick his neck out for the opposition?
complain about policies is no use one. the only way our words can mean something is to have power inside the parliament to back those words.
