Have you ever wonder why our ministers never speak their own dialect on TV? I think they are trying to tell us that because they are ACS boys and million dollar man, and the only language they speak is English.
To me that is bull crap. If you dont speak the language of the commoners, how are you suppose to understand what is like to be one.

some time ago the saying was 'acs owns singapore, ri runs it.' -

you go around in streets these days and see whether kids can speak more than a few sentence of swear words(in dialect) -

As for ministers coming from english-orientated schools, that is true. Lee Senior, in an effort to applease the pre-dominantly Chinese Ethnic population back in the 1960-70s, elected to put both his sons into 'Chinese' Schools while Lee Wei Ling attended Nanyang Girls.
Today, with the population speaking mainstream English, this concern no longer exists. However, the reason why the Ruling Party is finding heartlanders more and more difficult to wrest is due to a lack of basic dialect. So much so that PAP threw in a Dialect-speaking challenger into Hougang SMC to try and win back the support taken by Low Thia Khiang. -

They have never been commoners, so there is no need to understand. back in those days there were only a few schools most of the bookworms moved on to these few available schools eg ri, acs, sji etc... eh how come people forgot chinese high? a lot of chao towkays from there leh those cheena cheena rich men.
