Would you be a guinea pig if they pay u for drug test.
6 UK life hanging by a threat after new drug test gone wrong.... enlarged heads & lung & etc. Papers said they were paid 3000euro per test...
will you do it? is life worth so little? maybe when in need cash
BTW anyone knows if Singapore is legalised for drug testing? -

That is what was done before administrating to these 6 brits...
Is Singapore legally allowing drug test? Remember seeing class-ads in the papers for healthy soul for drug test....

Since it is done, obviously, what works on animals didn't work on humans. To put it in more simpler terms, human anatomy and animals anatomy, no matter how similar, there will still be differences. As for whether it is legal for such thing, you have to wait for oxford mushroom to come in. He's a doctor here, so I guess he should know some rules. -
I actually applied to participate in some of these tests. I figured why not? The money is good, expenses are paid, and the risks are low. In the end though, I was not selected for any test. Luckily, I might add, for participation in such a test will be recorded in your medial records and might have limited my options in the future.
Nowadays, I stick to participating in simple psychology experiments. The money is low; the most I ever earnt was £7 in 30mins. But its easy money and I could use with the pocket change.

Some people over here are using this argument to campaign (again) for an end to animal testing. Clinical trials are absolutely necessary before drugs can be safely marketed. The disaster in this case is extremely rare and I cannot remember one as devastating as this one before and thousands of such trials have been done over the years.
This was a Phase I trial to test the pharmacokinetics (how the body metabolize the drug) and usually a smaller dose than usual would have been administered. It is performed on healthy individuals and in this case it was a 'first in human' trial.
It had previously been tested on rabbit and primate, I think....you need to test on at least 2 animals, one of which should be a rodent, before you can move it to human Phase I trials. The compnay said there were no problems before but investigations are ongoing.
Can they do that in Singapore? Yes and they are being done. Singapore has ambitions of being a regional clinical trial centre and I think there will be more of such trials to come.
I think this case highlights the inherent risk in all such trials. Although the consent form is supposed to require volunteers to understand the risks, I doubt if they were aware that the risks can be so devastating, albeit rare. The victims may be able to sue on the grounds that the information given was not sufficient and so the consent was not completely valid. It will be interesting to see how the court will rule but I have a feeling it will be settled out of court.
I hope Singapore will learn from this lesson and ensure sufficient insurance cover for all such trials. Volunteers should also know that there is a small risk that things can go horribly wrong and that includes death.
Animal testing will not be sufficient. Perhaps the lesson from this incident is that we might have to do MORE animal testing and start with even lower doses and slowly titrate upwards. -
there are drug test in singapore. i even went for a briefing for volunteers. but i opted out after the briefing eventually. S$400 only though. but its not the money. i don't want any health complications.

Right, the money is good, but the risk is not always low lah. As far as I know, those who are serious about it really won't take medication if they know that particular drug has been tested on animals.
