It goes back a long way when all the countires listed is under the British Empire. So the game set to mean of increasing the goodwill and good understanding of the Empire. Iguess when each country got independent.... they still carry on the tradition of the games.

Funny.. that's what came into my mind when I was watching the Games finale on TV Yesterday.
