The Thais are teaching the Singapore Government - aka the Ruling Political Party - some lessons concerning National Pride and the People's Right to Participate in the National Interests.
With the Singapore Government aka Ruling Political Party being insensitive to Singaporeans - ( who have long arrogantly ignore the protests towards their policies that affect us ) - is it not surprising that the same Singapore Elites will also arrogantly think that the Singapore Reserves can be used to buy up any assets that others treat as National Pride ?
It is time that those beyond the reach of the arbitrary rule of the POWER OF ONE, will teach some [b]true lessons concerning National Pride - and not the self-serving lessons from purposeful designed propaganda to preserve the POWER OF ONE.

However, Temasek Holdings is not merely a business entity - it is also the National Icon as THE SINGAPORE Inc. - a business ambassador with a PREMIER STATUS that has no equal, its capital is the National Savings of SINGAPORE !
Temasek Holdings is part of the Singapore Government and perhaps it should conduct its business with more circumspect instead of 'gung-[b]HO' profit drive at the expense of Singapore's Public Image - which now seems similar to the Ugly Americans of the 1970s.
Can Temasek's purchase of Shin Corp be profitable IF all the Thais decide to boycott the goods and services that are provided by Shin Corp after the take-over ?
What if this takeover by Temasek embitter the traditional good relations between Thailand and Singapore, causing diplomatic fallout and affecting other Singaporean-Thai businesses ?
Is there any profitability in this takeover ?
Do the Thais and their Opposition Parties have any case against Thaksin ?
Too much shady transactions and 'late' transfer of shareholdings that only occurred in such suspiciously co-incidental way - ( before the transaction has taken effect ) - gave the Thais and their Opposition sufficient cause to assert their right to voice the indignation towards their National Leader - who is supposed to be above contemptible transactions.
If you will note, such rights to assert their dismay towards the Government is not available to Singaporeans.
The 'gung-HO' actions by Temasek Holdings should have been tampered with caution, considering their recent experiences in attempting to take over National Assets of other countries - which caused a national ruckus - such as the Australian Telco - OPTUS, Britisch Cable & Wireless, USA Global Crossings.

I agree with you that the party is not the state. However, in my opinion, your second assertion is completely false. People and the nation-state are inseparable. What is the concept of a nation state? It is a group of people of whom share the same national conciousness. In our case, Singaporeans share a common Singaporean identity.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Two different things, and this separation of state and population is an idea many Singaporeans are unable to understand, due to 40 years of propaganda that the party is the state and the state is the people.
We are talking about Temasek "selling plastic flowers" to the Thais - but the Thais prefer their own real orchids that has its own unique fragrances.Originally posted by Li Ka Shing:What are you guys talking about??
Relax......
This protest and burning, how long will it last? How big is it anyway?
After a while everybody forgets about it. Dont worry.
My apologies for intervening with this response.Originally posted by Typhoon:I agree with you that the party is not the state. However, in my opinion, your second assertion is completely false. Why split your feelings about national icons ?
Now I don't mind the Thais burning pictures of certain people (you know who), since those two are political figures and are therefore not embodiments of our country, but to burn our national icons is tantamount to spitting in the face of all Singaporeans- imagine if we burned a picture of King Bhumibol like the Cambodians did over the Angkor Wat incident back in 2003. I doubt that our embassy in Bangkok would remain standing should we foolishly try desecrating a revered national symbol of Thailand in that fashion.
Those 'national symbols' happen to be linked to Temasek Holdings, which unfortunately is behaving like the UGLY AMERICANS of the 1970s, shoving and flaunting their wealth, as if everyone under the SUN can be bought with the Singapore Wealth.
Granted, I feel no sense of attachment to the fish-lion mutant that Abhisit and his harem of cross-dressers are currently roasting. However, let's not forget their intent- they are destroying our national symbols (yes, I'm still proud of SIA despite its service or lack of it) simply to spite us. As distasteful as it sounds, we should rally behind Temasek on this matter- its high time that foreigners who think they can get away with pushing Singapore and Singaporeans around be brought to account.
NO to the Thai elitist opposition, support Thaksin!!!
very well said indeed ...Originally posted by LazerLordz:There are firms who will not invest in China despite good business sense, because it clashes with their beliefs in human rights.
Furthermore, we think it's just profits and we EXPECT others to think in our frame of mind, how callously arrogant is that? Extremely.
And if they have read the interview with the leader of the rallies, they are anti Singapore Government , not anti Singaporeans. Two different things, and this separation of state and population is an idea many Singaporeans are unable to understand, due to 40 years of propaganda that the party is the state and the state is the people.
