I have been an SIA solitaire member for many years, I travelled to all continents except south america and Africa, I lived 3 months in Philadelphia and 2 months in Paris, 1 month in toronto and numerous short trips like 3 weeks in Koln, 10 days in Beijing....... my children call my home hotel but I have seen enough to decide where I would call home.Originally posted by king108:I won't wanted to carry this bunden for life. Try to go round the world and visit some developed and developing countries, see and experience their life. There are good and bad. See what inside singapore is offering you. It's is only worth to die for a country if the country treasured you. Don't die so easily for nothing that my advise.
Let me share an amercian joke with you.
During an election rally: A General and A Private contesting for a seat:
General talk to the public: you know it's my leadership that lead america to victory in this war. Vote for me.
The Private speak to the public: We were on guarding his tend while he was sleeping in his tent and doing all the charging while he only command behind. Who had protected you.
The result of the polls: The private wons. Why - people wanted the one that serve no the one to be served.
Lastly. Best of lucks to whatever you do. Cheer.
Complaining is normal.Originally posted by tiggersgd:complaining is normal. chinese nationals complain too...but to their own people and unless you are on better terms with them if not you won't get to hear much, if any.

well...i saw a programme on the upcoming from sg...Originally posted by sgdiehard:Complaining is normal.
Businessmen in China and Indonesian complained about beaurocracy and corruption, but they face the realities, find ways to overcome and stay in business.
Chinese students want more freedom in a communist country, they took a more aggressive approach in June 4, failed and had to leave the country, like chai ling, wu er kai xi....they faced the reality, and suffered the consequence.
With rising nationalism, more and more mainland Chinese, western educated, are going home to take up the challenge to change, may be with a less confrontational approach, they may win, they may lose, but they speak about their aspiration for their country.
Singapore we have Tan Hwa Piao, Francis Seow, they complained and fought a good fight, unfortunately they had to leave the country.
Here we have many singaporeans, complaining about the country, the system, the government, the racism, the education.....but are planning to migrate or not coming back, not ashame to flee when there is a war. From these people we don't hear any aspiration about how to overcome the problems.
Tell me what are the empty vessels?
well it depends...Originally posted by tiggersgd:complaining is normal. chinese nationals complain too...but to their own people and unless you are on better terms with them if not you won't get to hear much, if any.

they tell the stories and the viewers decide if sg is a good country. if sg can get Discovery to tell good stories on how sg can break away from a big country and become a star hun in sea, sg is a strong country and must be rich also. Can you see that??Originally posted by contact:well...i saw a programme on the upcoming from sg...
from a small island to a star hub in sea..
i dont really know if they are telling good stpries just to make sg sounds like a good country..
but i saw that all the diff multi races in sg fought the jap togather in a last stand but was defeated..
and more than 100000 chinese are killed by the jap bcoz of their support of rebellion in china when jap invaded them..
maybe the spirit of nationisme have faded throughout the years...

watch the show again, the diff multi races were given arms only at the last min when the Jap have landed in Malaya, sure cannot win. that is why now we have NS, real military training and are ready for any people who might be stupid. We don't need NS to organise games for boys and girls to foster racial harmony.
The Chinese in Singapore in the 40s were patriotic to china, because sg was under the brits. That kind of nationalism has gone long time ago, when we became independent.
When you see a good story, watch carefully, listen properly and learn it well. it will be good for you

Just curious, like to know whether you are a Singaporean or Malaysian by birth and citzen?
I been to neighbour of sabah few years back (Negara Brunei Darussalam) on conference. I just wondered the needs of twin towers, big airport, megamall.
Like to know the number of the visitors each year to and fro of the state of sabah. In order to propose something like international airport factilities. I don't disagree that they may need to improve the factilities, however I will reserve on the size of the airport.
Just wonder is it the same as the one in Penang? I been to the one in Ipoh, that is definitely small and few visitors.
If the volume is hugh, I think it is right to ask for an international airport. Else, it may be some wastage of capital funding to build and maintenance later. (Personal view)
Is sabah, a trading place for any commercial commodities such as oil, gas, rubber, coffee, and other etc. I would not know, but I do know that lot of office in the twin towers are MNC or Mega trading firms and M&E firms. Some of my clients, suppliers had shifted into the building. I believe they do have business exchange with the central government.
On the megamall, I won't comment. Only thing is that I noted when I was in (Negara Brunei Darussalam), sad to hear from the local. The mass only turn up on End of each month.
By the way, like to know also the population there, the size of singapore or bigger?
No offence.
It is true many local complained about Spore but it depended on what kind of lifestyle they really wanted to lead. HK people actually tough lot cause they still worked at this dim sum restaurant in US, look at San Francisco chinatown.Originally posted by sgdiehard:I have been an SIA solitaire member for many years, I travelled to all continents except south america and Africa, I lived 3 months in Philadelphia and 2 months in Paris, 1 month in toronto and numerous short trips like 3 weeks in Koln, 10 days in Beijing....... my children call my home hotel but I have seen enough to decide where I would call home.
There is one thing that is common among the people of all these countries, their people are proud of their country regardless of what the countries have done for them or how rich or poor they are. Singaporean and Malaysians are the only lots who complain about their countries. Hong Kongers don't consider HK their country but they are also very proud to be a Hong Konger. I have even had a young Ethiopian studying in Minneapolis working as partime driver, telling me how he loved his country and was going back to help build his country. Even now I am meeting many mainland Chinese young people in America who want to go back to China. Call that nationalism or whatever, I see the zeal and fire of a youth.
Can't imagine what a country like Ethiopia, or a communist china can provide for their people, but their young people saw the inadequacies, they want to change and correct. Of course there are many others who settle down in a new place. But you don't hear them bitching and moaning about their countries, like many singaporeans here.![]()
It is not what you see, it is what you do after what you see.
Best of luck to you. cheers.
NS has been became softer over the years. Which one is your home state?Originally posted by sgdiehard:I am not offended, but you just did not get what I mean.
I was born in Malaysia, studied a few years there and then came and completed my PSLE and then all the way in Singapore. I still have many relatives in Malaysia, from Johore to KL, and Sabah. Still go back there to visit them and during Qing Ming. I bought properties in KL, sold them recently though. Hope that qualifies me to speak about Malaysia.
yes, Sabah does not need twin towers, big airport, honestly not even the megamall, but there are other developments that are really needed like infra structure. My point is that if the central government want to take money from the state, at least they must leave some money for the state to develop, to improve the standard of living of the ppl there.
Brunei is small and its population certainly does not justify many of the facilities there, but their ppl at least enjoy some of the wealth of the country. Sabah was a state rich in resources but 95% of the state revenue goes to the central. Now we see some changes in Sarawak, there are investment to diversify the business there, improvement in infrastructure and telecommunication, development of tourism.... nothing like that was done in Sabah.
On the other hand, does KL need to build the world tallest twin towers that stood half occupied for years, an oversized airport, a F1 racing circuit? It is ok if they want to dump their money from Petronas to put Malaysia on the world map, but shouldn't they leave some money be left for sabah state development if they take money from there ?

Amen... u know how much Sarawak got for its 9MP budget? Kuching capital of Sarawak is considered 3rd most developed cities... but still lacking in proper funding considering the amount of revenue generated and the amount returned.. 5% or less < . Gas reserves recently found near our shores and i wonder where its going to go. Sarawak n Sabah has the biggest land mass.. yet the poorest road conditions. Improvements have been made alot during the years but still un-adequate. Monetary funded by private tycoons to better the state , also resulting in certain biased corruption. I say upgrading of infra-structures that is lagging 10 years behind KL to be upgraded would be better. Maybe coz Sarawak n Sabah are pre-dominantly non-bumi states.Originally posted by sgdiehard:msia take care of sabah??? big joke.
sabah in the 70s was the second riches state after selangor, now it is very poor cause the central government took all the revenue generated in sabah and leave only 5% for its own development. Now Srwk remains one of the main contributors of revenue. How much money is given to these two states by the central government.
