Apparently, the forummers here are very young and have no recollections of the days of the 80s when there were no opposition members in parliament. Those days were the golden years of Singapore. Double digit growths, securing the title of the Asian Tiger, etc. No bickering day in day out, just things getting done.
those were the easy days when competition has yet to become globalised and there is no pressure from low cost countries. back then everyone was poor so there's nothing to bicker about. now, some have made it, some have not. those that have made it insists on hanging on to their riches and refusing to share wealth even as the country is being innundated by wave after wave of economic disturbances. under such conditions, would it be fair for the elites to hide behind monopolistic rules and establishments and not weather the storm with us?
