New PAP Candidates

Hello everyone.. I've started this thread to see what you guys have to say about PAP's new signings.
So far.. I have only one comment.. judging by their 'mugshots' on the CNA website, their complexions look as white as their attire. LOL.. no disrespect meant.. just an observation.
Oh I have a suggestion to the mods... With GEs coming up... I bet its gonna be a hot issue.. how about creating a forum just for GEs... -
Is it against the law to create a forum on the GEs?

I saw 3 new faces on Channel NewAsia, 1 female full time social/volunter worker, 1 malay MNC (CEO ?) and 1 doctor. I did not know their name.
On appearance, young neat and look presentable.
I think all belonged to the high salary range.? (personal view, please don't speculate on my behalf)
Other than that, frankly speaking (I don't know)

Ms Denise Phua, 46, is already quite well known – she is President of the Autism Resource Centre. She is married with 2 children. She has also been in volunteer work since 1999. Many admire her for her determination to help her child overcome his disability, and applaud her for sharing her knowledge and experience with other parents.
What do you make of these new faces?
The youngest today is Mr Zaqy Mohamad, 31, a business consultant. He is married with 2 children. He was President of the NTU StudentsÂ’ Union. He too has been involved in grassroots work since 1999.
Dr Lim Wee Kiak, 37, is an Associate Consultant with the Singapore National Eye Centre. He is married with 3 children. He has been a volunteer with the grassroots organizations in Marsiling since 1998. So he has had 8 years of community service. He also served in the SAF mission to East Timor. -
the media says that the malay candidate has a master degree in financial engineering from carnegie mellon uni, but in his cv in the young pap website it stated only a "certificate" in computational finance. i wonder which version is true....

By recruiting candidates from grassroot and voluntary organisations, the PAP seem to be telling us that they still care for the less fortunate and disadvantaged. They have been criticised for too long that they are living in ivory tower.

Technically anyone can enter politics, but without a uni degree, who would vote for u?

HOW COME PAP CANDIDATES are getting SO MUCH MORE MEDIA COVERAGE than the OTHER PARTIES even BEFORE the election

At the introduction of three new faces, the chairman of the Ruling Political Party - Lim Boon Heng - said that
- the party looked for qualities like capability, compassion and character but not conformity.
It will be interesting to see if any of these party candidates after being elected, will be allowed to display independence and show their more 'colorful side' instead of the boringly false 'white' that has become faded over the last 'FORTY YEARS'.
Can 'NON-CONFORMITY' be expected from the Members of Parliament from the Ruling Political Party - who will again dominate Parliament ?
Can the majority of Members of Parliament from the Ruling Political Party be allowed to vote according to their conscience ?
Will the Ruling Political Party have sufficient confidence in the judgment of those whom they selected as having capability, compassion and character ?
We will probably see a repeat PERFORMANCE of 'DOUBLE-TALK' that was displayed over the last FORTY YEARS, in which the Ruling Elite have always say one thing and move in another direction. -
Isn't it a contradiction?
A political party is loosely defined as a party made up of a group of people with the same political values and goals.
If you do not conform to the party's views, then you would likely be joining another political party that shares your views.
How to be a non conformist in your own party? -

An article written by Chua Mui Hoong was rather daming of the 3 candidates, by Straits Times Standard. Below is a section that stands out:
Quizzed on their political views, the three candidates, alas, retreated to textbook answers. For example, they were asked their views on a Straits Times survey of young voters which found that 40 per cent cited political freedom as one issue that would sway their vote. They were also asked if they thought it desirable to have more opposition in Parliament.
Mr Zaqy's reply was that it all depended on how freedom was defined.
Dr Lim thought having more opposition was not a priority. 'Within the PAP itself, there's a self-checking system,' he said, adding that while monopoly of power tended to corrupt, 'thank goodness, I think that has not happened over here' as 'honesty is one of the values of the PAP'.
What checks does the PAP have? Dr Lim referred to the government parliamentary committees where PAP MPs debate policies and the systematic attempt to solicit feedback on policies. 'There's always consultation going on,' he said.
While desirable, having consultation on policies is surely not the same as having constitutional checks and balances on the Government - but this was not a point that he chose to finesse over.
As for Ms Phua, she observed that Singapore could not afford to waste time on internal politicking as regional economies moved ahead, seemingly subscribing to the view articulated by some that democracy, with its debate and jostling for power, is a waste of time that detracts from the real work of government.
Even the issues they said they want to push for are all within the PAP's radar screens, such as Dr Lim on devoting more resources to children from low-income families and Mr Zaqy on bridging the gap between policy and implementation.
What little they revealed about their views on political issues was generally pro-status quo, even conformist at times.
Zaqy cannot give direct answers, Dr Lim thinks everything can be defined from a doctor's 'consultation' perspective and Ms Phua feels we're WASTING TIME POLITICKING when overseas opportunities beckon.
If Lim Boon Heng want to unveil 'non-conformists' candidates to sell the idea that we don't need any opposition party representation in Parliament because the PAP members themselves will offer alternative voices and ideas, then he better do MUCH BETTER with the next set of candidates then these 3 wishy-washy robots. -

Using ISO definition, when one found "no conformity" in practise, the auditor must give a ACAR, and auditee replied with a CAR. In this case, it may the most be given a "observation". -

Until today, we had not seen other "showman / showwoman" - cannot show of hand along with Mr Chiam and Mr Low even after heated debate performed by them.
Haven't we seen enough such performance. Even when NMP's individual visions that are difference are told to " ". I don't bear any hope on them already. -
