Free Chinese Newspaper coming in June

in a bid to promote the standard of chinese lanuage, local publisher Singapore Press Holdings will come up with a free daily chinese newspaper which will make its debut in june this year.
How many here encourage the idea and just a show of hands how many of u here read chinese papers regularly? -

will be glad if they also give free Malay daily so I can start reading a bit of Malay. -

My family subscribed daily but I oni peep a few pages before heading off to work.
When I hv more time on my hand on weekends, the Sunday pullouts make gd read.
It will be unlikely for me to get the free chn version cos I gigest news faster with Today.

But the evening papers has lots of news though, like 1 female plainclothes police officer charged for playing with revolver with her bf -
hahaha. Yeh, those evening papers would really go into details how the offenders/culprits go abt it. Sometimes, they have illustrations to boot.

Do you believe that the Chinese Newspaper is FREE, when it is well known that in Singapore -
"It is Lee Kuan Yew's dogma that nothing is free in this world. There is no free lunch, no handouts, no subsidies." .
Are we certain we do not need to pay for the proposed Chinese Newspaper, just as the TODAY papers are available " FREE " at MRT stations, petrol kiosks, bus interchanges, financial districts ?
Have we not considered that although we are not paying any money for it, by reading the supposedly FREE papers, we will be paying a price for letting ourselves into a 'brainwash' from the daily propaganda dosage of cleverly dressed and simply analysed "one-sided views" of local and world events, that do not require any thought process to be exercised by ourselves ?
Can there be anything free in Singapore ? -

The advertisers pay vast sum of monies to place advertisements in the separate lead newspapers that serves each ethnic community; while the consumers will have to pay a higher price to purchase the advertised products, and GST will be collected at a higher price level - all of which benefit the Finance Ministry, then the GIC and Temasek Group. -

End up, for consumers, do we care? If news content is good and the paper can survive, no one will go calculate all this extras from the govt -
No I don't. In fact I've also terminated ST.
Rather read BBC, CNN or go internet- free & there are lots of news not reported here.
