Mental Roadmap of Singaporeans

Except for those who are in this forum, it seems like most Singaporeans are just very satisfied with status quo. It appears to be easy for us to be blinded by the following things;

1) The rulling party is good and gives us refund, monetary rewards, upgrades comes around election time.

2) Singapore is safe, I have a job, my kids are doing find in school, therefore the people in charge must be very honest and doing things in our interest.

3) Compared to most countries in S.E.A, we are the best and the cleanest!

4) The tight censorship is good for controling the media and preventing unrest.

5) I don't need to really care which party is ruling, as long as I have a decent living, money to live by, and good food to eat.

6) The education here is solid; everything is well-planned. If I get a certain grade, then I can advance to my choice of streams, if not I will be filtered to less desirable streams. This is very fair.

7) Foreign talent is good for the country's growth. Let them keep coming!

From what I listed above, don't you think it is easy for most people to be indifferent with politics? Isn't it easy for people to be complacent? How can we effect positiove change in a society? With the current status no wonder it is hard for Singaporean to stimulate creativity and entrepreneurship!

Here's my impression of Singaporeans' mental roadmap;

Singaporeans born in the 60's are fearful of government persecution if they voice a different opinion.

Singaporeans born in the 70's just do what the system is setup for them to do, follow the crowd.

Singaporeans born in the 80's try their best to fit into the system but seems to have a feeling something should change. But cannot put a finger to what it is.

Singaporeans born in the 90's feel the pressure of the system and expectations from previous generations. They keep thinking is there more to the life I am living now?

Singaporeans born in the 21st century will exhibit the ill-effects of the old system, then maybe real change will occur.

I belong to the 80s.

This is a consumerist corporation in every sense of the word these days..

For the last FORTY-NINE YEARS, since the Ruling Political Party came into power in 1957, according to the POWER OF ONE the Guiding Political Principle has been to - "FILL THE STOMACH, and NUMB THE MIND" .

The ability to "FILL THE STOMACH" of Singaporeans have given the POWER OF ONE the legitimacy to rule rough shod over all Singaporeans - by changing the Singapore Constitution with new legislations that make a mockery of the original intention of the Singapore Constitution; which prevent Singaporeans from exercising the fundemental POLITICAL RIGHTS; and giving the POWER OF ONE the FREE LICENSE to RULE AT HIS PLEASURE.

FORTY-NINE YEARS of continuous tinkering with the legislations has given the POWER OF ONE the advantage over all Political Rivals.

The POWER OF ONE has ingeniously entrenched itself into an OMNIPOTENT POSITION, giving itself a PERMANENT LEGITIMACY - in the minds of Singaporeans with a full stomach - despite all the mishaps of failed policies, and mistakes made by its loyal underlings that are ingeniously gloss over, while that of its rivals are derided with all its political strength.

Now that the "FULL STOMACH AND DULL THE MIND" concept being threatened by the challenges of a NEW WORLD ORDER, it will be seen if the Singaporean Minds will be awaken by the growling of a half-filled stomach.

Lets put it this way, the signs are now out there.

First, maybe 10 will wake up to the reality of our political situation.....

tomorrow maybe another 100 ...

and then another 500 next week... eventually maybe 1 million smart and well informed citizens would have woken up from a deep political stupor.

That is when we see the birth of a new Singapore, a true democratic nation of conscious, participating Singaporeans.

What you've mentioned has been going around in Singapore for many years already, few days back in Parliament Balajit has his concerns in mind and he wanted to do something about it the internet web!
For What ? Singapore Stability ?
It is obvious that he is showing to his boss that he is very mindful to eliminate Oppositions elements for PAP, so that they will enjoy higher pay increment for a good job done...
