For your information, all served NS will be stopped at the Causeway and or Changi Airport when there is a real recall. International passport also no use. (They may be detained or prosecuted, I wouldn't wanted to speculate)
Hence, it's does not matter so much as long as you are a singaporean, cause you are likely to be called back to unit.
Unfortunately, such rules does not apply to foreigner migrant even when they become singaporean. Hence, they are still free to run because they will not be recalled for defence.
We welcome highly waged foreigner talent, we also wanted them to contribute to the progess of our nation. We would like them to lead infront by example when the need arises.![]()

Read those threads on why Singaporeans are migrating. I don't assume, many speak for themselves.Originally posted by casefan:You are assuming most local born are not ready to fight for Singapore. You are assuming most local born are ready to migrate anytime. What rubbish!
An FT has forsaken his country of birth, what is there to stop him from packing up and going somewhere else when the going gets tough here.
You did not answer or chose to evade the question. Are you an FT? Where are you from? Are you really a sg diehard or only when the going is good for you (or only during a football match)?
I was not born in singapore. where I came from is none of your business. I supposed I was an FT here before I got my citizenship.Originally posted by casefan:You did not answer or chose to evade the question. Are you an FT? Where are you from? Speaking about the local level, the newspaper had published an article about Chinese national n Indian national working as scientist in America, they wereOriginally posted by hisoka:prob, so what??
they can distrust him or here there bah. you must realise that all this ft labelling is at a local lvl.
Still wouldn't reveal where you came from? Ashamed aren't you? Not surprising to me. Still, I wouldn't trust someone like you with my welfare as much as I would trust a son of the soil. You have forsaken your country of birth, what's there to stop you from forsaking Singapore. The truth is, you're here to milk the system.Originally posted by sgdiehard:I was not born in singapore. where I came from is none of your business. I completed full time NS and still doing my reservists. I pay above average personal income tax.
The going can be better for me in some countries, depending on what I want for my family, give and take a little and I have decided not to migrate!!
qualified to talk??
prepared to take up this issue during the election??![]()
Unlike migrants to America, where some even sign up with the Army and strongly encourage their kids to do so, especially the Koreans and Laotians.Originally posted by sgdiehard:![]()

same old problem again, don't want to serve NS, scared kenna call back to fight while others got chance to fly away.
If your dedication to defend the country where you were born depend some new immigrants, than the brand "local born" has no value at all.![]()

If the need arises, you want the foreigners to lead and set example?? no wonders the FT are "infront".![]()

Hey, I find your last sentence offensive. This is a GLOBALISING world, borders are shrinking. So you find third culture kids on the same level as people who jump ship eh?And I suppose you spit on people who work and live around the world, having the ability to migrate around in search for their dreams?Originally posted by casefan:Still wouldn't reveal where you came from? If you read my postings earlier you would know where I came from. there is nothing to be ashamed of. I did not forsake my country of birth, I made my choice, just like those local born singaporean who chose to migrate to better places DURING PEACE TIME.Originally posted by casefan:Still wouldn't reveal where you came from? The man has served his NS, give him some respect alright. We may not agree with his views now and then, but he's done his time and that should be respected.
why are you interested in my background? The PAP or the opposition parties will reveal my background if I were to run for election for them.Originally posted by king108:![]()
I been thinking why and what are the possibilities for this great man to have served our NS and became a Singaporean.

It's great that he is loyal to our nation.
His background is still a misery, just like PAP asking the non-ruling parties. I only know that he could be a 1st generation migrant here and that all.
Question 1: Did he studied here? Had he taken our grant during his studies or given any kind of scholarship.
(If any of the above, the answer could be crystal clear)
The answer is crystal clear now...Originally posted by sgdiehard:why are you interested in my background? The PAP or the opposition parties will reveal my background if I were to run for election for them.![]()

I have taken scholorship in singapore, which was offered to all singaporeans who have a reasonable A level results and completed NS. So what is clear to you??

Since coming to Singapore, I have become a typical singaporean now, I won't get involved in politics, my salary is enough for me now so no need MP allowance, I want PAP to continue ruling but with more oppositions in the parliament, I prefer working with charitable and religious organisations rather than grassroots organisations, so there is no question whether the PAP wants me or oppositions need me....Originally posted by king108:![]()
if you are smart, you should be standing in for PAP..of course they may not wanted you.
Standing for opposition, no a wise choice for you.![]()
you're 2nd generation isit?? if not how come need to serve ns?Originally posted by sgdiehard:Since coming to Singapore, I have become a typical singaporean now, I won't get involved in politics, my salary is enough for me now so no need MP allowance, I want PAP to continue ruling but with more oppositions in the parliament, I prefer working with charitable and religious organisations rather than grassroots organisations, so there is no question whether the PAP wants me or oppositions need me....

I first generation but came very young to complete secondary school. Got my PR (a bit of a long story about this) and then served NS.Originally posted by hisoka:you're 2nd generation isit?? if not how come need to serve ns?
I also a second generation PR from Indonesia. I served my full time NS already.Originally posted by hisoka:you're 2nd generation isit?? if not how come need to serve ns?
hmm i thought policy was 1st generation no need to get conscripted one.Originally posted by sgdiehard:I first generation but came very young to complete secondary school. Got my PR (a bit of a long story about this) and then served NS.
always wonder why local born got so much problem with NS. To me, it was like outward bound schoold training, topo was like hiking. Scenarios for exercises are always interesting, ops order procedure is in fact useful sometimes in civil life. Food and clothing provided and somemore got paid.
I wasn't too keen in getting into the U quickly or coming out to work so NS was just another interesting chapter in my life, adding to my experience. Of course, there were barking corporals and the kaopekaobu platoon mates, you see this kind of pest everywhere, in and out of army.
the point I want to make here is that many singaporeans NOT BORN HERE have gone through as much if not more than many of the local born. NS taught us to aim before we shoot, and these local born better learn and learn well.
First generation can choose to serve if they want to. Mindef loved to accep their applicationOriginally posted by hisoka:hmm i thought policy was 1st generation no need to get conscripted one.
not sure about the others, but i am against my doing it cos its a waste of time. didn't learn anything, nothing interesting and not in a useful role. therefore a waste of time.
would have prefered to carry on and be working now instead. + of course the financial loss.
