I am one of those singaporeans who migrated - yes the ones whom GCT called quitters. I am sure once in a while , when a person see an opportunity to further a dream, they will jump at it. I am one of those people who saw an opportunity to expand my career and future and I grabbed that chance .Originally posted by casefan:You finally admitted you came here for the "peanuts". Finally showed your true colour. You "din quit on anything" because there was nothing there? By the way, your command of the English Language is atrocious. Shameless I should say again. Where are you from? Bangladesh?
Old man? I guess a 38 year old man is an old man to you, considering that you're still wet behind the ears. It's possible for me to have had fathered someone who is of your age, nonetheless.
Scared of competition from FTs? I run my own trading business and I do make it a policy not to employ FTs. That's why I have the time to indulge myself here.
I rest my case. There simply is no point carrying on this discussion with a rude, shameless, parasitic and arrogant FT who has lost it.

WP holder normally worked as hard labour such as construction workerOriginally posted by qpicanto:Even as the second generation PRs are required to do National Service, the work permit holders are taking up jobs here from neighbouring countries after completing their education. These are young work permit holders armed with qualifications in their early 20s entering the jobs market and free from lifelong National Service obligations.
It must be the employment pass holder then. They must have found the loop hole in our system.Originally posted by will4:WP holder normally worked as hard labour such as construction worker

Probably sgdiehard found a home in Singapore - I am happy for him . When we call people FT , they are not sgdiehard - he already gave something back to Singapore by doing NS for 2 years. Singapore's so called foreign talents come to milk the system without giving something back AT ALL.
I am in Australia now . Australia gave me a chance when Singapore would not in my circumstances- so be it then. I am not without skills - Canada and USA offered me jobs , I am not slack in improving myself but the sadness is that MY own BIRTH country choose to give foreigners opportunities over me. I serve the Australian public now in repayment for all the opportunities Australia gave me. Call me a quitter , I don't care. I have a home but it is no longer in Singapore. My friends who are still in Singapore, know why I refuse to step into Singapore for such a long time. MY own COUNTRY , the government that MY own COUNTRYMEN voted for, GAVE FOREIGNERS ( those who do not have to serve NS) more benefits than they would their own people. And no, I am not a guy , so NS rules don't apply to me in case anyone wants to speculate.
We all have our own reasons why we migrate. As long sgdiehard serves Singapore well, please treat him with respect.
You're a victim of the FT policy..... I feel sad for you. The root of your problems lies in the FTs (even those who have served NS as they were foreigners in the first place) taking up jobs here and displacing people like you... and you still symphatise with these people? There are even quite a few of these people lurking around in this forum.Originally posted by fymk:Singapore's so called foreign talents come to milk the system without giving something back AT ALL. .........

I don't think FTs are the root of my problem. Who made the policy? Not the foreigners.Originally posted by casefan:You're a victim of the FT policy..... I feel sad for you. I appreciate ur help.Originally posted by fymk:I don't think FTs are the root of my problem. Who made the policy? Not the foreigners.
I am not sympathising with them. Those PRs who served NS have to give up 2 years of their lives for a country they are not even a citizen of. They deserve some respect.
The ones who are really milking the system are those who came expecting to milk the system without giving anything back. Those you have to be wary of.
people of your caliber, wherever you come from, are easy to be replaced. don't blame the policy. If you don't wake up you will soon find that in the army you will be led by officers who are not local born, your boss in your company is not local born, and your MP in your constituency is not local born.Originally posted by casefan:You're a victim of the FT policy..... The issue is not about FT. By definition, anybody, FT or not, once given singaporean citizenship is a singaporean, not an FT anymore. We are not talking about using FT to run a country, but should there be difference between local born and naturalised singapore, when it comes to politics?Originally posted by fymk:I don't think insulting casefan would help this discussion.
He is in his right to feel the way he did. I felt like that when I was in Singapore ( of course that doesn't mean nasties should all come out from him as well) : government favoring the foreigner over me , a singaporean . It is a policy problem. Singapore should not have "foreign talents" taking over what Singaporeans can do equally well.
The reason why Australia employs me is because I have a skill which is in demand and there are not enough trained people to fill up the vacancies. Australia has a protectionist policy when it comes to jobs. Australians FIRST then invite foreigners if no aussies or not enough aussies can fill up the job space . I think that is a good thing. No excuses for resentment .
Are you familiar with the bumi policy in Malaysia? what casefann is advocating is amounting to that. Two bad policies do not add up to a right result.Originally posted by fymk:I don't think insulting casefan would help this discussion.

Imagine when you get your Australian citizenship, some angmoh oz come and telll you that you are an australian but there are certain thing only the local born, or the white australian can do. If you are sick of a policy that give preference to foreigners over locals, how would you feel if a singaporean, or an australian in your case, tell you that you are still an outsider, no matter how much you have given for your country??
[]Singapore would not be what it is today if we depended on only the local born. It is a fact and not an insul

check out the politicians in Singapore, old and new, find out how many were actually local born and you know what I meant.Originally posted by qpicanto:That sentence in large font is a subjective and sweeping generalisation.

I just went thru the list of Ministers, some mentioned that they were born here, while quite a number never state the place of birth.
I disagree. You make your own choices and you decide if you want to be pitiful. It's a crucible out there, we all cannot sit in our comfort zone anymore. You want this country to change, you have to do some groundwork. You want a great career, be prepared to live the global traveller's life or have fourth culture children. The old world is over guys..Originally posted by qpicanto:Local guys pitiful indeed.
