I live in East Coast, and it is a stronghold of PAP.

Thinking that PAP will loose East Coast just because of a flood is ludicrous. Then again, WP Chia is a school mate and therefore, I should vote for him
Btw.. East Coast GRC does have many rich but most of the rich do not support PAP. Take StandChart Khoo and UOB Wee for example. Look what the government did to Khoo's daughters and expect the same when Wee pass on.
In addition, East Coast GRC has alot of middle income earners... the forgotten clan that earns a lot but not enough, owns a lot but all on mortgages, pays a lot of tax but get zero benefits ("read progress package").
I think WP has a good chance, their latest candidate line up is impressive. Can't say much for SDA and I think we can forget about SDP. -

Heavy downpour, road depression caused Bedok flash floods: PUB

SINGAPORE : An unusually heavy downpour was the main reason for recent flash floods in the Bedok and Eunos areas.
The Public Utilities Board says it has added more drainage areas to solve the immediate problem.
Just a week ago, heavy rains caused flooding in eastern parts of the island like Bedok, creating problems for some residents.
With elections around the corner, the Workers' Party has said it wants to look into this issue.
The PUB explained that a combination of the road conditions there and an unusually heavy downpour caused the flash floods.
PUB engineers say a depression in the road caused a "bowl effect".
This means that when there is intense rainfall, water tends to gather and cannot drain away quickly enough, causing flash floods.
Said Yap Kheng Guan, director of drainage, PUB, "On that particular day, Bedok received 110mm over one and a half hours -- compare that to Toa Payoh and Jurong at 50 mm, and other parts at 30 to 50 mm."
Their solution is to double the number of drainage holes at a cost of S$20,000.
One stretch of Bedok North Avenue 3 now has drainage holes about one and a half metres apart, compared to an average spacing of 6 metres for many other roads.
PUB says increasing the number of drainage holes is one usual way of alleviating the situation at flash flood-prone areas.
The long-term plan is to put in box drains, which have double the draining capacity.
These drainage improvement works will be carried out in tandem with a two-year road interchange project in the area.
Meanwhile, PUB is appealing to members of the public to alert them about other problem areas, which could be prone to flooding. - CNA /ct

It's not possible to replace the feeder buses for LRT... The cost of building it is too expensive

I refer to the report "When 6 kids turned up at Meet-the-People session" (ST, April 19). Minister Raymond Lim was quoted as saying that what matters most to people are bread-and-butter issues rather than greater freedom and self-expression.

This notion was also implied by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew in his televised dialogue "Why my vote matters" with young Singaporeans, and it was echoed by some readers who wrote to the Forum.
It appears that Mr Lim, MM Lee and the letter writers were making the assumption that freedom of expression and sustenance are two mutually exclusive issues.
I want to put forth that such an assumption is erroneous. The two are separate and orthogonal issues. We do not have to forgo one in order to have the other. Many nations have achieved both. What is preventing us from having them too?
Next, I want to focus in the same report which implied that Mr Lim learnt about what he thought the people wanted through his house-to-house visits.
I live in Block 183 Bedok North Road, which was one of the flats Mr Lim came calling a few months ago. Part of his entourage went ahead of him to knock on doors and alert residents of his arrival.
Upon finding out that I had much to complain about, they suddenly gave the excuse that Mr Lim had an urgent matter and would have to cut short his walkabout. After they left my door, I found them still going on their rounds.
I have since heard from friends who are involved in grassroots organisations that this was the usual modus operandi used by some MPs.

That's why you need full-time MPs. People who can make the most of their time to represent your municipal issues in parliament and be able to do research on policies to to present their party stand on national issues.
