PAP buying votes with Progress package?

Isn't it interesting to see that the timing of the progress package payments, to the population, have been scheduled a few days before the general election. Unless I am really dumb someone please tell me how is it possible that our Minister of Finance NOT know that the Prime Minister will be calling elections on May 6, a few days after the progress package payments is made to all Singaporeans? I thought buying votes was illegal in a democracy.

The Government is just trying to give us back some money so that we can pay for the eventual increase in transportation, utilities and GST.
You should be very grateful to have such a generous government.
There is obviously no need to buy votes as they will win the majority of the seat. -

When people say that the Progress Package was an election sweetener, they can say;"No, it is not an election sweetener."
Therefore, they can even slap you across your face really hard, and say to you that it is not a slap, it was just a caress.
They can do anything they very well please.
Why? Because all of us, can't afford to object, protest, or defy. -
its my money in the first place. I should not feel indepted to vote for any party that I do not deem to be honest.
