It seems Lee Senior, having lost the 'academic quality' trump card, now continues to push the message that PAP-led candidates are still better than opposition candidates. And what better way to distort the truth than by claiming that the Ruling party has created a FIRST WORLD GOVT?
Denied by the quality of WP candidates this time round, he nevertheless continue to stretch that belief. All this talk about PAP being first world standards and opposition parties yet to offer first world opposition is empty talk and merely aims to drive home the facade that PAP-candidates are simply BETTER than opposition candidates.
Have the new PAP candidates been tried and tested? Placed in the hot seat, are they able to perform WITHOUT the coaxing from their heavyweight ministers? Or will they be disappointments like Transport Minister Yeo Cheow Tong?
The opposition has lost many times and evidently know how to lose and come back stronger. The current crop of WP and their preparation work is proof enough.
Should widespread defeat stare them in their face, will the PAP know how to lose? -

Are there any FIRST WORLD Government or Parliamentary Systems anywhere on this globe that will pulverized its Opposition into PUBLIC OBLIVION to allow itself TOTAL DOMINANCE of the Political System ?
The PAP has already cast its die to be a spoiler in the event it loses its grip on Government in any fairly contested election process.
It has over the last FORTY-FIVE YEARS politicized every Civil Service Position - by putting in place loyal Political Appointees; and passed legislations that ensure its own appointees are protected in their respective high positions, by disallowing any new government to dismiss these appointment holders put in place by the present Ruling Party.
We can only hope that these personalities will exercise their moral conscience and serve Singaporeans loyally, and not place their allegiance to those who put them in their High Public Offices. -

I think Mr Low struck a chord very close too the heart of most Singaporeans. Alot are afraid to vote against PAP because they stand to lose out on things like lift upgradings. etc etc. It's essentially blackmail. That is not how a first world democracy operates.

I think PAP deals with those who try to shout their ideas but not those who are able to articule as well.
If only WP comes to my district, Bishan-Toa Payoh, I have not seen my MPs since I first moved in 1986, and I am not surprised to have it merged with Puala Tekong if it means a win for MIW. -
After 40 years of Singapore Independence, I am very disappointed to see that the Ruling Party have to relied on its founder to handle and take care of all the opposition party.
The rest of ministers have since been very quiet after the conflicting remarks on the precentage of votes for a certain area.
Not a single Ruling Party Candidate is able to bring about a forceful statement or defence against the Opposition party.
Everyone is relying on Senior on his comments or remarks.
That is why he still have to stand for this election.
What about the rest of the million dollars ministers ???
Can they help Senior in the Election Campaign or their impression of the Oppostion Party remains at 12 years ago.
Where is the next leader ???
I really hope they can REALLY bring about something of use to the Singapore People instead of offering Progre$$ Package and Upgrading.
As for the Opposition Party, I salute the candidates in coming forward despite of the possible consequences.
They have learned and grown to be a strong force with limited resources and time.
They have a great future ahead and the people can see their battle to offer another voice (NOT snores) in the parliament.
As for Singaporeans, do you want to vote some one that is supposed to represent your voice and feedback, but face seen on lamp post and plastic sheet most of the time and appears once every four year and some one you dun even know the name ??? -

I think we need to give the WP some more time to develop into a credible opposition, which if you ask me, they're well on their way to becoming one with the manner they are conducting themselves in the run up to these elections. With that said, I believe the WP has to highlight the policy difference that it subscribes to as to the PAP's, I do concede that it is a herculian tasks by all measures, but it is something neccessary if they are to show themselves as a credible alternative voice. -
