Democracy and Human Right, does Singapore got any of them?

  i mean by "Western" Standard. certainly having this Speaker's corner is one majoy contribution to singaporean welfare.. can anybody name any other contributions??

  stay for one day, a few years back for stopover.. got impression that sig is a bit like city of guangzhou. Correct me if i am wrong.
  
  i was just told from time to time, more than 5 people gathering would be considered doing protest, is unlawful.. and also i was told by a guy, who visited sig in 80s. and he was only allowed to go through custom on the condition that he would cut his shoulder long hair off.
  
  moreover, i was told chew gum is also banned. are those things true?? or some kind of exaggeration, or purely make-up? in reality, how those kind of things work??

  long hair in the past got, kitaro not allowed to perform here before because of that.
  
  sell chewing gum is banned but not chewing it. but now dental chewing gum can.
  
  got the short skirt thing in the past also.

  en.. to me, that western democracy means:
  
  1. public elected government in an accountable manner;
  2. there are at least one decent size opposition party;
  3. there are sufficient instances of rotation of rulling party in the history.
  4. the legislation and administration and justice are handled by truely separate institutions. the supervision mechanism is fully trully in place.
  
  just personal opinion anyway.. and also i do not think taiwan is a good example in this regard.. nothing more than a joke.

  Probem is that the majority don't care about ideals so talking about them is meaningless... Remember LKY went to Taiwan and ask them to concentrate on making money only?

  you are right. nobody cares about rights.. as long as we can make dollars. en.. i agree. as i am a chinese.. wherever we go or stay, this principle is always stuck in our mind..
  or it might be able to explain in many places around the world, chinese becomes victims when there is a political chaos..
