DO NOT VOTE FOR THE OPPOSITION JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK THAT THE PAP DOES NOT DO THINGS THE WAY YOU WANT THEM TO BECAUSE THE OPPOSITION MAY NOT BE UP TO YOUR STANDARD TOO. ONLY VOTE FOR THE OPPOSITION IF YOU THINK THEY CAN DO THE JOB BETTER THAN THE PAP.
I realise Singaporeans these days really like to complain a lot... I think this is the result of higher levels of education... Youngsters these days think and argue too much... It is a good sign but I think it's used in the wrong manner... Basically I see that people argue for the sake of arguing.. The whole point being that they do not want to lose the argument... Just take the LKY conversation on TV as an example... Those people have gone over the line lah seriously... They want LKY to respect the youngsters but are they respecting him? Think about it...

How true.
Only the foolish would vote for the opposition just because they are irked by the arrogance and complacent attitude of the Ruling party.
They should be voted for the right reasons and not because of some emotional tandrem.
And why should you even talk about whether the opposition can govern SG better than the Ruling Party? The issue is already moot.
The discussion should be whether they are [b]capable of running a GRC town council better than the Ruling Party. Have you been so sidewinded by the speeches and rhetorics of the Ruling Party that you bought into their story of the opposition incapable of running SG?
They are using macro-issues to circumvent the multiple micro-issues that the opposition have raised, all with merit; that are now being totally sidestepped and hoodwinked by the Ruling Party.
And ask yourself this: with the quality of candidates that the WP has presented, do you for a moment doubt that it is INDEED POSSIBLE for them to run a GRC town council well if not better than the Ruling Party?
Why do you think the Ruling Party are so quick and sharp in their attacks, so eager to target individuals and not really addressing the policies and alternatives raised by opposition candidates?
For the first time in 3 elections, they are genuinely afraid of the opposition. Led by the WP, there is no doubt that they pose a serious threat.

freakass, let's just not feed the narrow-minded anymore. Perhaps, some of these people just have to learn things the hard way. Vote for the opposition if you so think they can be more capable than the PAP because you have the right. I am thankful that the opposition just does not have the substance, but if they do, I wish all of us good luck because we certainly would need a lot of it.Originally posted by freakass:What's with Singaporeans these days? listen ass kisser. singapore was not a success solely because of Mr LKY. There were many other founding fathers. What about Toh Chin Chye. Mr Jeyaratnam etc. We owe nothing to Mr. Lee. Since when does the MM owes any S'poreans anything for that matter?
If he was not around, S'pore will not have anything at all.
Show some respect to the FATHER OF S'pore!!!![]()
have a feeling LKY probably had to much to drink that night or either he is on some anti aging drugs that help him hallucinate that he is still in 1965. Wake up Mr Lee.! Here is what really happened at the Foreign Correspondents' Association dinner (OBVIOUSLY NOT REPORTED IN THE ST)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
SINGAPORE (AFP) - Singapore's iron-willed founding father Lee Kuan Yew has said he will not allow the foreign media to tell his country what to do on domestic issues.
Speaking to the Foreign Correspondents Association late Friday, Lee said the tiny but affluent Southeast Asian city-state cannot fully emulate the political practices of other developed western countries.
"We're not going to allow foreign correspondents or foreign journalists or anybody else to tell us what to do," the 82-year-old former prime minister said.
"There are very few things that I do not know about Singapore politics and there are very few things that you can tell me or any foreign correspondent can tell me about Singapore," said Lee, who has successfully sued several media critics for libel.
Lee, whose son Lee Hsien Loong is the current prime minister, is admired worldwide for transforming Singapore into one of Asia's wealthiest nations in just over 30 years despite its lack of natural resources and limited manpower.
However, the government has also been criticised by human rights groups and the media for clamping down on dissent as well as curbing press freedom and other political rights.
Only one party, the People's Action Party (PAP), has ruled the country since independence in 1965. Opposition leaders have been crippled by financially draining defamation suits filed by PAP stalwarts.
But Lee, who holds the advisory post of minister mentor in his son's cabinet, said the system worked well for Singapore, and dismissed opposition candidates contesting the May 6 general elections for having no credible alternative program.
During the question-and-answer session, Lee also dressed down a Singaporean journalist working for a foreign news agency who had asked why it was difficult to get data on the salaries of cabinet ministers.
"Oh come off it, it's in the budget," Lee snapped. "I'll have none of it. You cannot pay the ministers without a proper budget," he said.
"I will not put up with any slur that we are trying to hide our salaries. It's rubbish, plain rubbish and as a Singaporean you ought to know that."
Raising his voice, Lee cut off the journalist in the middle of a follow up question.
"I'm telling you the reply before you finish the question, so please consider carefully what else you're going to make, what other slurs you're going to imply. You're not going to intimidate me, ever."
Lee told another Singaporean foreign correspondent she was "talking like an ignorant voter" when she asked why constituencies who had voted for the opposition are left out in government improvement projects.

Before you guys take in the entire story, please keep in mind the power of the pen... and also the writing and persuasive skills of a reporter... The same piece of news can be written to two extremes by two different reporters... Im not saying tht there's no truth in this article, but sometimes you have to give tough replies to the reporters because they were sent there to shoot you down.... if tht's the case, there's no need to be nice to them anyway...Originally posted by Pronewbie:This is the typical Lee after the 1970s..

Granted. But the reporter did ask a very valid question. No matter in what tone I still feel he should've answered it instead of doing his typical "I was once a cross examiner so let me challenge you" bollocks.Originally posted by freakass:Before you guys take in the entire story, please keep in mind the power of the pen... and also the writing and persuasive skills of a reporter... Why bother answering the '[b]blind'?
For they feel the tail of an elephant and say they are holding a snake.
Let them continue with their eyes closed and their ears tuned to only Ruling Party frequencies. Political ignorance is but the bane of many a brainwashed citizen.
