PERIOD.
No use asking so long as they're in charge.
There are more secured and pro-people ways of investing the reserves:Originally posted by dragg:the investments only benefit the coffers.
nothing to do with us.
You stand for election and I vote for you leh. OK tell me who you support?... any constituency also can.Originally posted by robertteh:There are more secured and pro-people ways of investing the reserves:
(1) Put the monies where the mouth is - invest in promising local industries through established venture capital projects to create jobs for citizens.
(2) Promote use of idling resources, empty lands and factories and encourage retirees and unemployed to take up short leases at minimal set-up costs to produce essential foods, consumption items to gain foreign exhange and create jobs for the hundreds of thousands of unemployed.
(3) Invest more safely rather than politically sensitive projects overseas - secured blue chips, bonds and bank deposits.
(4) Place some monies in endowment funds and use the yields from a basket of safer investments like trustee stocks etc to cover any shortfall in some essential government services like education, medicare, utility and transportation to lessen the rising costs of living and doing business.
(5) Use the rest for long-term investments in education, research and development, broad-based practical knowledge application institutes to support new technology start-ups etc to catch up with more advanced economies like Switzerland and Finland.
My constituency is a walkover to MM Lee's Tanjong pagar. So sad I do not live in Tanjong Pagar but was prevented from voting. It is how the GRC has deprived many thousands from voting but Singaporeans and all the MPs are helpless to do anything.Originally posted by casino_king:You stand for election and I vote for you leh. I meant since you yourself are not standing but you sound so profound... which opposition candidate do you personally support?Originally posted by robertteh:My constituency is a walkover to MM Lee's Tanjong pagar. I agree that up to 1970s PAP was ok, just ok probably we had Goh Keng Swee who was more consistent and focused. After 1970s, the same old conceptual assumptions about leadership and talents were not changed and Singapore began to decline as seen in many deep recessions which only recovered finally due to sacrifices of the people but not the leaders' economic restructuring of new ideas in harnessing technologies or innovations. For years people have pointed the old assumptions about leadership and talents could not work without opening up to mass participation or lowering of rising cost of living but the leaders were too over-confident to listen.
The biggest mistake of MM Lee is in neglecting broad-based education, empowering of the masses in innovation, economic restructuring, entrepreneurship, and even technology-driven foreign investments.
Now problems are solved only through piecemeal efforts and there is still no economic master plan seriously and consistently implemented to guide or empower the masses or provide guidance to whole economic restructuring. There is too much attention given to nickpicking and politicking.
I am not connected to any opposition candidates. Francis Seow and Tang Liang Hong are good role models but they are now in exile.Originally posted by casino_king:I meant since you yourself are not standing but you sound so profound... which opposition candidate do you personally support?

Low Thia Kiang is doing fine as he has been able to attracted new blood and that is good. If he builds on this momentum from now till the next election, next election will be different. It is crucial that he continues to build on this momentum.
Chiam See Tong is playing his role. Steve Chia needs to recover from his own personal minor mishap, but he is now asking good questions on major issues and problems and he is not intimidated.
We need active citizens who can express their views through all venues available to lead the people to support strong oppositions for the greater good of all. People must be to stay collective in their views or else their voices will not be heard. More efforts should be made to ensure transparency e.g. investments of people's monies overseas, negligence in implementing safety measures in the Nicol Highway collapse and shortsighted pro-foreign investment and employment policies.
Goh Meng Seng, Sylvia Lim, Edmund Ng and Chee Siok Chin and others I do not know also deserve our support. Well done.
Thks for compliment. You are better. We are fellow citizens with a view.Originally posted by casino_king:this robertteh guy is very good, most of the threads are banned except this one and he is the one who contributed the most in this thread.

The promise for hundred million upgrading during the election.
No one state who is paying for the upgrading.
After the election, "you" want the upgrade, "you" have to pay for it.
"No Free Lunch in Singapore"
So, no surprise why the ruling party have so much BILLIONs to upgrade suddenly cos the singapore suckers are paying for it.
Any one can promise without paying it.
