If citizens keep paying surpluses through HDB which made $14 billions from sale of HDB flats over 12 years from 1990 and LTA which collected triple taxes on vehicles (Excise, COE and ERP) and taxes are diverted from spending on essential services and hoarded instead into surpluses for Temasek to acquire Shin Corp or Global crossing, is the minister who said "there is no such thing as free lunch" really telling the truth to the people.
So when he said that there is no such thing as free lunch and people cannot use the surpluses for upgrading of estates or medicare, who is giving free lunches to who? Aren't the diverted surpluses people's own monies?
The ministers should not forget that by self-approving the $1,500,000.00 salaries pa and lifelong thereafter after two terms, the world's highest minister's pay, people may be in fact giving ministers free lunches not the other way.
Truth is not as the first-world commodity which sadly is not what the ministers are always saying. Truths must come out for good corporate governance no less.
