"Fix" has many awful meanings which are mostly illegal in nature. According to Longman dictionary, it means to arrange an election or game dishonestly etc.
Do we elect our MPs or leaders to fix us our elected MPs illegally in this manner? Is this the standard of First-World leaders or government? -

Is there surprise that PM LHL is making perhaps an unprecendented move in acknowledging his use of words may have been more abtly put?
The only surprise is that the 'apology' came at all.
And why should we be 'further surprised' that he prefers not to say it in person, but rather release it through his press secretary?
This act further hightens the arrogance and snobbish mentality prevalent in Ruling Party, a trait that has seem them lose touch with the people.
It begs the impression of one who is too pissy proud to get down from his pedestal and admit a mistake.
Even in shame, there is arrogance. -
Will Irene Ng follow in the footsteps of PM Lee and issue a 'press statement' amounting to some kind of apology over her claims that the opposition 'cause trouble' in parliament?
Will she even admit that her wild claims about the opposition were unjustly far-fetched and morally incorrect?

I mean, LHL, even if there are a hundred oppositions in parliament, they won't gripe if your ideas and initiations are "water-tight" - not leaky. -

Polls open in Singapore election
The opposition is hoping to make gains
Voting has started in the general election in Singapore.
The poll is the first electoral test for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong since his appointment in August 2004.
For first time in almost 20 years, the opposition is contesting more than half of the constituencies in the tightly-controlled city-state.
Final campaign rallies were held on Friday, with the governing People's Action Party emphasising what it calls its strong record on economic growth.
However, opposition groups have insisted the gap between rich and poor in Singapore is increasing.
The opposition has only two seats in the 84-member parliament.
It has little access to state-controlled media and its leaders are frequently sued for libel and bankrupted.
In the last vote, in 2001, only a third of voters were offered a choice of candidate, with the opposition fielding hopefuls for 29 seats.
This time the main opposition parties - the Workers' Party (WP), the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) and the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) - are together contesting 47 seats.
Mr Lee apologised on Friday for saying earlier in the week that he would be distracted by a stronger opposition.
"Instead of spending my time thinking of what is the right policy for Singapore, I have to spend all my time thinking what is the right way to fix them, what's the right way to buy my own supporters over," he said.
The BBC's Andrew Harding in Singapore says slowly, though, things are changing.
The internet has broken the government's stranglehold on the media, and a younger generation is starting to question the restrictions of Singapore's nanny state, our correspondent says.
That is not likely to translate into an election upset, he says, but any gains by the opposition could be interpreted as the start of a trend -

SINGAPORE : The press secretary to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has clarified remarks made by Mr Lee at the lunchtime rally on Wednesday.
During the speech, the Prime Minister had addressed the issue of opposition MPs in Parliament.
Mr Lee had said that if the opposition were to hold 10 to 20 seats in Parliament, he would have to spend much more time thinking what was the right way to "fix" them.
Explaining Mr Lee's remark, his press secretary said Mr Lee had meant to say that if there were many more opposition MPs in Parliament, the government and opposition would spend all their time and energies countering each other, and Singapore would be worse off for it.
Mr Lee used direct language to get this important point across to a mass rally crowd and is sorry if the words had offended anyone. - CNA /ct

Like I always say, Singapore is one of the most desirable place to live if you have money. However if you grew up in Singapore and is currently out of job and stuck in the bottom end of the food chain, then I think more OP voice in the parliment will be better for you as a citizen. But when parliamentary efficiency, in the hands of 82 MPs from one party, can become a highway without speed limits, we need a few traffic cops to ensure no crashes down the road.
We're all Singaporeans, each of us has issues, different platforms of concern.Our parties in Parliament have to represent the myriad views, and we have to ensure representation for all groups in the population. -
