indeed the WP n SDA has done well for hougang n potong pasir respectively, ie. to retain their seats of more than 10 ++ yrs.
who gomez really is, only the wise can determine it. a fool merely just sound out like an empty vessel. evidence is already there. so judge it urself and consider if he is worthy to be in WP. no smoke w/o a fire...
and as mentioned by thread-starter, the residents of hougang was n i quote "indicates a strong REJECTION of SGD100mil worth of taxpayer's goodies, and a firm rejection of the despicable methods to 'buy' hougang voters" thus it might be safe to say that they do not need the $$ to upgrade their surroundings etc now n as urgently as some other wards. so why did the opp. mp of hougang proposed to the government (pap) that he (LTK)wanted to apply for this amount of $$. (LTK still has the sinking funds for his ward to work on anyway.)
as to buying of votes...doesn't the oppositions' tactics revolve around 'sympathy votes" to buy their own votes as well?

it is indeed the people's monies but it is also the choice of the people in hougang (and of course potong pasir for that matter) to vote for the mp that can help to bring, and i quote the thread-starter again, a "better town council, better hope and a better future for the people in the opposition ward."
lastly, it is indeed the singaporeans taxpayers' monies. not only the taxpayers' monies in hougang/potong pasir but the whole of singapore. but since the people has voted so let the respective opposition mps handle it. -

I do not think this is what goes through my mind. There are public fund set aside for each constituency. It is a matter of dispensing the public fund earlier or later. In this case, it should be earlier for potong pasir and hougang. -

You can only compare the capability of two managers by given them the equal amount of resources and see the result. Not by given one unlimited resource and deny the other any and claim that one is better then the other.
By comparing the PP, HK and other PAP constituencies, with their limited resources, in my opinion they perform much then PAP wards. That is why they gain support from their respective constituency.

Ya, i alway felt that PAP won because of the malays. The malays seen to love the PAP to the core. I believe WP should start recuriting people for the next GE and start doing ground works now. Let say if Singapore is not divided into GRC or SMC, the vote ratio for PAP would be quite low as regards of what they say. WP had done a good job in this GE, especially for Ajunied GRC. They should start planning to contest all wards to let all people vote

I believe Pap will only fall around the year 2030. Haiiiii....Too bad by that time i am already a old man. No more strength to cheer out loud even if the oppostition win. But nvm, i am happy as long as the opposition win.

I was so disappointed that WP lost Aljunied that I couldn't eat for 2 days. The team is powerpack and I suspect the relentless bad press on JGomez has achieve it's effect.
I was thinking that the result might have a bit different is JGomez has been tasked to lead another power packed team with Brandon Siow replacing him in Sylvia's team. I'm saying this not because of the JGomez bad press but JGomez is really a political heavyweight. No point putting all the eggs in one basket. He should lead another team.
Here's a few suggestion for the WP for the next 5 years...
1) Make your presence stronger!
A rebranding excercise would give WP some good publicity. Besides, I think WP should refresh their branding with a cleaner and younger look. The current blue color tone doesn't bode well with the younger generations. I think what they wore (RSAF's light bue) is very nice.
2) Reach out to the other wards!
Start setting up 'help centers' in other wards. Residents in PP and HG knows how much efforts the WP and SDA puts in. Unfortunately, the other PAP stronghold doesn't have a clue (as evident in the numerous discucssion in other threads).
They should be aggressive. Start low-cost tutition centers or help centers to reach out to a wider crowd. Start a volunteer movement to help the less privilege under WP branding.
3) Publicity, publicity, publicity!
Let the whole know... information like Chiam upgrading lifts in PP using it's own funds and without having the resident pay for it put the ruling party to shame. This are the information that Singaporeans needs to hear to know that the opposition party are working harder and more sincere for them. -
