speaking abt gd customer service eh.......Originally posted by gerrykoh:The whole unfortunate incident won't happen if the Election Dept staff were more helpful. We have been emphasing on providing good service.
They should have help the candidates (esp. the first-timers) fill up forms & check that everything is in order eg when opening bank a/cs or applying HDB flats, u just give your ic & documents, the staff will do everything for u.
Also if the form is missing, what's the big deal. Just fill up another one.
They are the ones making things difficult.
Did James Gomez make any move that amount to 'CRIMINAL INTIMIDATION' towards any officials in the Election Department ?Originally posted by lionnoisy:PENAL CODE

and don't we all see how divisive it has made us.So who set out the stage for us to become so easily politically charged when such an issue appears.Originally posted by Fatum:you realise that the "truth", real or otherwise, no longer matters for most people ? .....
that the way we perceive this whole episode has been coloured by our political inclinations ......
the sad thing is ... the truth and the outcome no longer matters ... many people have already decided that for themselves ...
Says a lot about the maturity of the political party concerned. Like a playground bully la..Originally posted by Archie_boy:This episode is to frighten the would be opposition politicians. If they choose to contest against them, it can happen to them too. Even if it's the slightest of and incident. It's called the "scare" tactic.![]()
The sunday times reported him as flying back to sweden to carry on his work when he paused for the elections.Originally posted by banzie:Its not difficult to see why James Gomez would want to leave the country as fast as possible if not elected. Remember Teng Liang Hong? MM Lee is famous for doing many things to his political opponent. For MM Lee to react that way after the election is a norm. Now everyone already cast their vote. Then the fox tail revealed. I think James Gomez could make a very good political opponent. Few people could dare to stand against an overwhelming government. He has my support though I find him guilty.
Originally posted by Himbo:Next time you go NTUC fairprice and tell the cashier, if the eggs you bought happen to turn out rotten, there will be consequences.
This is KA NA SAI lor!!!!!
If Gomez's words "there will be consequences" can be considered criminal intimination then...
....PM Lee's "I will have to fix the opposition and buy my supporter's votes" is OUTRIGHT INTIMINATION and display of intention of bribery!!!
...PAP's policy of "if you vote for me, i give you upgrading. If you don't vote for me, i take your tax money and give others and don't give you" is criminal intimination and extortion on a national level.
...PAP's warning that "the Gomez issue is not over. We will look into it after the elections" is also a threat.
Remember Cheng San, 1997.
And you all know whose fault is all of this........?
It's Aljunied Resident's fault!!!!!! You all must explain!!!!!!
People fly home immediately all the time after conferences or an event. Whaz the big deal? He had a job to return to at the end of the day unlike our million dollar ministers who can sit on their bums and only appear to shake hands during elections.Originally posted by ditzy:The sunday times reported him as flying back to sweden to carry on his work when he paused for the elections.![]()
as to your first statement bro, I have no idea, perhaps you can elucidate ? ...Originally posted by LazerLordz:and don't we all see how divisive it has made us.So who set out the stage for us to become so easily politically charged when such an issue appears.
The same could be said with the ethnic self-help groups, and our strange ways of having a Speak Mandarin and a Speak English campaign ongoing at the same time.Singaporean culture and identity that surfaced naturally is denied, and only state-engineered national identity platforms and programs are encouraged.
A real Singaporean unity, or an affected one? The answers will let us understand why some form of division is so natural today..
I'm talking more on how the state's role in engineered emphasis on ethnic self-help above national self-help may actually serve their purposes, because they actually avoid a strong melting pot of views and thoughts.Originally posted by Fatum:as to your first statement bro, I have no idea, perhaps you can elucidate ? ...
as for the second part, remember that Singapore is an artificial state afterall, we're an accident of history, like it of not ... as to the Singaporean culture bit, well ... I certainly think there's plenty of it in evidence ... from kiasuism to kiasism ... they are all part of the Singaporean identity, no ? ... social engineering does not work, we know that much from the last 40 years of national campaigns ... we still litter, we still speak Singlish (for my thoughts on Singlish, please visit http://www.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=176815 ...) ... a big pity though, don't you think ? that without the legions of banglas cleaners, Singapore would become a cesspit within the week ! (and the public toilets in 48 hours ! ) ... maybe we don't have a first world goverment yet ... but you think we already have a first world population already ? ...
but then again, of course, you're talking about the rise of a political culture eh ? ... this is an inexorable process, whether the incumbent recognizes it or not, we have seen this in the last elections ... but, the real issue is, is Singapore ready for the kind of unbridled political process some chaps here envisions ... freedom comes with responsibilities from all players, I have this latent fear of Singapore's political process turning into a fracas, a scandal driven circus ... look at the forums during the elections, everyone speaking over each other's heads ... take a look at the threads by that chap january for example, and more importantly, the kind of reactions ... I'm afraid I have to say; we're not quite ready yet ...
Internet forums are hardly indicative of our readiness for political change. Both you and I and several others are posting under anonymity. Have we abused this anonymity and irresponsibly expressed arguments which cannot be ascertained? Not every forum is like sammyboy...Originally posted by Fatum:... but, the real issue is, is Singapore ready for the kind of unbridled political process some chaps here envisions ... freedom comes with responsibilities from all players, I have this latent fear of Singapore's political process turning into a fracas, a scandal driven circus ... look at the forums during the elections, everyone speaking over each other's heads ... take a look at the threads by that chap january for example, and more importantly, the kind of reactions ... Singaporeans seem so guilible, don't you think? They buy the propaganda hook line and sinker. The opposition cannot sell their own propaganda or counter the influence of the propaganda because they do not have access to the mass media.Originally posted by MrIllusion:Internet forums are hardly indicative of our readiness for political change. Having more opposition candidates in Parliament doesn't mean that Chiam See Tong will suddenly take a page from the Taiwanese and start flinging foldable chairs at other ministers.
We just need to stop equating the opposition with utter chaos.
In this event, what we have to do is a grassroots alternative media network, teach children what it means to be objective, and balanced in looking all forms and sources of information before making an informed decision.Originally posted by casino_king:Singaporeans seem so guilible, don't you think? That the PAP lost PP and Hougang and could only garner around 55% in Aljunied speaks volumes to me about the dissatisfaction on the ground. Can you imagine if it were a free and fair election?
the 66.6% of voters chose PAP and bit the carrot...this is tian jing di yi.Originally posted by siaokao:Thanks to the 66.6% who bite the carrots.. PAP now has the right to practice such 3rd world politics for another 5 years.. and thanks to these 66.6%.. 100% of Singaporeans will be slaves for the next 5 years!!
YES! to the POWER OF ONE!!
