Now get 66.6%, they say it was better than what "he" predicted of 60-65%.
Then the newspaper now say "HE" achieved his strong mandate, with the "elders" supporting him saying 66.6% shows strong mandate.
Pre-election say like that, post election say like this.

This is the quality of our media. Though I believe there're people inside the media who are pissed with it also, but still the end results is that our local media still functions like PAP's blog.
Kinda like tired of local TV boardcasted political news. Watch sports or dinosaur documentries only. -

Pre-Election, he actually said "NO COMMENTS" to questions by Singapore reporters about the percentage that will satisfy him.
Post-Election, he declined to compare the results of the 2001 election which the PAP won 75.3% of the valid votes; and preferring to bench-mark his performance with the 1997 election result which the PAP won at 65%.
He actually had not much of a choice, as GCT had been involved in all past elections since 1976 (72%), 1980 (77%), 1984 (65%), 1988 (63%), and 1991 (61%).
It is up to PM LHL to pick whichever year to benchmark this first election victory so as to make his victory sweeter. -
well, the fact that PAP swooped 82 out of 84 seats clearly shows majority of the Singaporeans still supports the new team to lead the country for the next five years. Though most of us know to well why he didn't compare with results in 2001. Though its 66.6, it's still a win and results dun lie.
Let's just put our emotions aside and be one People, one Nation from this moment on.
We shall see how PAP performs this five years. We will be watching them closely....

In Singapore, they make you think it is illegal not to vote by saying voting is compulsory. How many of you have friends who voted simply because they think they will go jail not voting? -
I think,
its fair to say Majority Singaporean still feel comfortable with PAP leading,
however, I dun think its a strong Mandate...
1) Hougang improved 7% for the WP
2) Potong Pasir Chiam also improve slightly...
and all these are despite great efforts from PAP wanting to win back the two wards and listing as the top priority for GE 2006...
Also, PM Lee only managed 66% in AMK compared to GCT's 76% in 1991...
Also, despite the great efforts into wooing voters in Aljunied plus the media's support, PAP only recieved 56% there....
Lets not forgotten, we grew up with the PAP logo deep into everyone's impression...hence for the Opposition to get 34%, it really showed something. -
Our first world leaders can play with words, anyone else doing so will end up in trouble.
I always thought first world government looked at first world standards, seems they are pretty content with 66.6% and calling it a strong mandate, yet not willing to compare it to GE2001.

It is simply UN-DEMOCRATIC for them not to be chosen by the People.
The Opposition Parties will be forced to find candidates to contest all Electoral Wards or Constituencies, so that the Citizens will be able to exercise their Democratic Right to vote for someone to represent them.
Thailand has a Royalty to look after Thailand, while Singapore has a President, who is 'handpicked' and 'annointed' by the POWER OF ONE, before being sent to the 'WAYANG' of a Presidential Election by the People.
