Strong mandate comes from my bloody ass, mate. Please don't hide the undisputable fact that the mandate has been reduced significantly since the last election.
Every taxi driver I speak too has voted for the opposition. And you call this a strong mandate? Stop fooling yourself please.
They may present it in any way they want, but the statistics don't lie; in the previous election PAP's mandate was 75%. That's a drop by a full 9 percentage points, which is surely no small potatoes to any political party.
Unfortunately, the more they repeat the 'strong mandate' claim repeatedly in our so-called free press, the more will people believe it.

After the Elections, the Ruling Party has forgotten their use of Third World Political Methods to compete with the Alternative Parties, who stuck to their plan of behaving like First World Politicians - so as to expose the sham in the Ruling Party's claim of being First World Citizens.
Now the Ruling Party is justifying their claim of overwhelming victory by comparing their result of a 66.6% votes with the First World election process where marginal difference in votes are counted in hundreds.
The Ruling Party has conveniently NOT mentioned that in the First World Countries -
there are NO WALK-OVER CONSTITUENCIES,
all Electoral Boundaries are clearly defined and NEVER CHANGED with each election to suit the incumbent,
all forms of VOTE BUYING is ILLEGAL,
the Electoral Department is INDEPENDENT and the Head of the Electoral Department is NON-POLITICAL,
FREE MEDIA that is INDEPENDENT of control by ANY ONE POLITICAL PARTY,
Government agencies and Civil Servants are NOT ALLOWED to help the INCUMBENT Ruling Party.
Can the same be said of the political situation in Singapore ?
This claim by the Ruling Party of having a strong mandate from this 2006 Election is a hollow one, made only to justify for themselves to another FIVE YEARS of rule in ARROGANT DECISION making processes.
