I READ with interest the letters, 'Fix a more urgent need: Lifts in opposition wards' and 'Make the Progress gular affair' (ST, May 9).
I, too, hope that the Government will make the Progress Package a regular affair. However, while I am pleased to have received the recent payout, I can't help but feel that the money could have been put to better use. As long as there is a more deserving need, the allocation of state money should be to that need first.
The people in Potong Pasir and Hougang deserve to have their lifts stop at every floor more than I deserve my payout. I will therefore be donating my payout to the respective town councils for their upgrading needs.
The multi-million-dollar upgrading promised to the two opposition wards if the PAP had won imply that these wards are due for upgrading within the next five years. I hope the Government will still make the funds available to the two wards.
This is one of the ways the Government can improve its standing with the 33 per cent of voters who did not vote for the PAP. This way, the PAP may be able to win back some votes from the opposition in the next general election.

Come on.
I believe I'm getting a PP of 3k next elections.
The more opposition wins, the bigger the carrot.

As long as LKY is still around, i don't think he will allow anyone in PAP leadership to go "soft" on the opposition wards....
