people here who know me know i have every moral right to comment. you're just a screw up tho, so i expect u to keep assuming anyway. People like u are forever blind to the truths afterall.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:That's your opinion...and from someone who has not served NS. I have no issue with allowing someone to defer to train in a skill that is crucial for running the army. But allowing someone to defer merely because he can play the violin??![]()
once again, therein lies the crux of the problem. if the people of singapore are as dishonourable, dishonest as the govt expects them to be, then if they're really needed to fight when the need arises, don't expect them to.Originally posted by iveco:But the government is scared he will not return. what would be your stand?
funnily enough, the huge number of the many singaporeans who feel its a step backwards socially and who voice up, seem to not count as loyal or as a valid voice. All these ludicrous claims about the govt listening to the people and this move being applaude by all loyal singaporeans just seems to be made in a very biased manner. In fact anyone who makes these claims is simply ignoring the fact that there is more or less an equal number of people who are against this rigidity at the detriment of the nation's social progress.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:I am glad that the government has changed its policy on NS defaulters and NS deferment. It is a step in the right direction and is rightly applauded by many loyal Singaporeans who have done their national duty.
If the talented or gifted can be granted deferment from National Service to pursue further studies, then the system is no longer equitable and smacks of elitism of the worse kind. Many who have gone before have sacrificed opportunities in similar conditions. National Service is a sacrifice made by every able-bodied male Singaporean. To allow those judged to be more talented to serve at their convenience is a great insult to the rest of Singaporeans.
In any case, the gifted will do well even if they give up an opportunity in order to serve NS. Other opportunities will come by them. It might be argued that those who are less gifted and less talented have more to lose in giving up such an opportunity, for it is more likely that they will never be given a second chance.
huge number? Rather, it's a vocal minority...you have not been to an army camp. oh blow your own trumpet. in the end, as singapore slides further into the decay of tyranny, we all know who gets the last laugh.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:haha...hear the loud voices of dissent that brought the PAP another victory?
Fact is: people like you make alot of noise here where it is forgotten tomorrow. Others make their point to people who matter and gets translated into policy, like this NS deferment issue![]()

So your teacher taught you that 1/3 makes the majority? Care to tell us which school?Originally posted by HENG@:oh blow your own trumpet. in the end, as singapore slides further into the decay of tyranny, we all know who gets the last laugh.
Funny, u seem to forget over 1/3 of Singaporeans dissent. And the rest, the older generation, who can blame them for not having the guts not to bite the carrot and face the stick.
no but my teacher taught me that the minority's voice is also valid, not to be brushed aside like nothing, especially when one is running a country. The minority are people too, and their opinions and voice are as valid as the majority's.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:So your teacher taught you that 1/3 makes the majority? So once agaiin you resort to personal attacks and insults if you cannot win the argument....if that is representative of Opposition parties, we will never have a viable Opposition in Parliament.Originally posted by HENG@:of course, u being a low level govermental dog, wouldn't know that sort of concepts. as long as u get your bone, F*ck the others, isn't it?

If supporters of Opposition parties will not allow others to voice a different view without being repeatedly insulted and called dogs and worse, can anyone imagine Singapore under their rule? Perhaps you have unwittingly shown that some Singaporeans are just not mature enough to handle western-style democracy.
