Is it YOUR concern that there are more Christians among the MPs???Originally posted by robertteh:There may be more MPs who are Christians than other religions as a result of education or evolution of our society but that does not necessarily mean a bad thing or follow that Christians or Christianity are dominating the government.
As long as the constitution or government's basic philosophy is multi-religious or secular, Singapore should at least be in stable hand.
There is a need to differentiate values and religion in refering to religion or regilious group within the government. The value system among the Christians might be strong or outspoken but as long as such values are good for society, and coincide with all the good value system of the state, there is no reason to fear the upholding of those values whether coming from Christians or non-christians.
It is for the government and society to mature to a higher level of social mores i.e. higher morality, fairness, equity, practising EQs and desirable social and cultural values. If religions can serve as complement to such social and cultural ballast of a country, they should be welcome to grow on their own strengths without inhibitions or discrimination against any one. Singapore can remain a multi-religious country with people of different beliefs living in harmony and mutual respect.
If with improvements in education and opening up of society more people may turn to religions that offer higher values of living and higher morality standards. This trend is good for the people and should be a good part of governance.
A government devoid of values or morality on the ground that it has to be totally secular may also be too detached and uncommitted to values and that may produce even greater danger.
Not concerned at all. Any MPs who are truly religious whether as Christians, Buddhists or Muslims will be keepers of people's collective social and moral conscience.Originally posted by sgdiehard:Is it YOUR concern that there are more Christians among the MPs???
If we take education as a base, it usually falls short of desired result. Very educated people can commit the highest crimes especially economic crimes amounting to millions if not billions.Originally posted by dragg:dont christianity attract a lot of educated people?
