It takes intellect to watch something that is more of enquiry than entertainment.Originally posted by HENG@:the person who just said he'd rather watch MI3, well now we know just how far his intellect(or lack of) goes.![]()
Its time we pause and think about wheres our people's freedom. If today, under the pressure of the Christian groups, Da Vinci Code was banned from screening, then other incidents will soon follow up. Soon, another book or movie with another religion as a subject will too be requested to be banned. Then another one will follow. If we are going to just let all these happen, then soon it will become so sensitive that nothing will be allowed to be shown.Originally posted by spurs88:Can't understand why our Christian Ministers/MPs are so quiet over the screening of the movie, Da Vinci Code in S'pore?
Aren't they supposed to speak up for Christians like what our MM said they are elected to do when GRCs in elections are first introduced, just like what the Malay Ministers/MPs are doing for their Muslim community issues?
So why didn't we screen Salman Rushdie's Satanic verses? I mean freedom what? Its only right Muslims should respect the rights of other people.

Da Vinci code is a form of entertainment. While the censorship board had respect the Christians here and rated the movie NC16, its only right for Christians to respect other religions and freethinkers and stop protesting.
Racial harmony is not about different races getting together to celebrate on a specific day of the year, it is about understanding and practicing the freedom of belief and rights in our daily life.
that's what they all said before power came to them...Originally posted by banzie:Yea I am a Christian but if I am in the paliment... My piorities are the people despite my believes... It should be sensible... Anyway its just an entertainment I don't see the fuss. Just watch a forget as long as people know the truth then wat's the issue?
Just like the casino problem... In religion point of view I may not accept it but if as a MP wise he should look at it in the economic point of view for all Singaporeans. Still I agree with it. Anyway I wun go gambling though.
because certain people go on mindless killing rampages whereas others don'tOriginally posted by plo30360:So why didn't we screen Salman Rushdie's Satanic verses? I mean freedom what? Its only right Muslims should respect the rights of other people.
I don't because its a threat, its got Christians riled up.
The movie is no threat to Christianity. The book was interesting although factually flawed (but it is after all, fiction)....the movie was downright boring.
Not an issue for the church to fight over. It might focus some attention on Christianity in fact, and that may be better than the religious apathy seen in the West.
x1. this kind of theory only serves to confuse some new believers and cause misunderstandings in Christianity among non believers. The words in the Bible and the work of the Holy Spirit is far more real than such kind of fiction. Christians make noise to show we are insulted.Originally posted by plo30360:I don't because its a threat, its got Christians riled up.
Its like someone decides to write a fictional book that says your mother is whore but on the 1st page states its is based upon fact.(Actually even if that 1st page statement, wasn't there, there' still plenty of reason to be pissed)
I agree to a certain extent with what some people have said that by noise about it, Christians are helping Dan Brown to promote his work. But, there are still some things naturally your not going to keep quiet about.
Tom HanksOriginally posted by HENG@:honestly tho, i would say many of us who read the book probably wasn't too happy with the movie not sticking faithfully to the storyline. Afterall, the existance of TWO codexes, one in black n one in white, is meant to demonstrate the symbolism of balance, yin yang, the cup and the sword etc etc. take away the black codex then wads the point of the whole movie? u lose the intelligent plot.
plus i still didn't like the fact thay got tom hanks to act as the prof very much.
Val Kilmer. THATS WHO IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN!!!

Val Kilmer
The 'sweet baby faced' Val Kilmer as a 'professor' of antiquities ?
You must be kidding- but one can understand how this sexy hunk can make any young girls' heart miss a beat and expect him to play a more sober role.
Between the two actors, the face, age and character of Tom Hanks certainly fit the expected bland and boring role of the professor in a boring "Da Vinci Code" movie.
Should we expect Tom to duplicate the high jinks of Harrison Ford in the role of a professor in the adventurous Indianna Jones series.
Back to real world, can one expect the Singapore Ministers - who are Christians - to put their Christian Values in matters of the State ?
If the Members of Parliament had placed their religious values ahead of their political values - Singapore will not see the IR Projects coming on-stream, nor will Family Planning be implemented, nor Stem Cell Research carried.

Thats 1 part freedom had failed. Thus Da Vinci Code should never be yet another failure exampleOriginally posted by plo30360:So why didn't we screen Salman Rushdie's Satanic verses? I mean freedom what? Its only right Muslims should respect the rights of other people.
