Singapore's leadership may be the most pigheaded example of the notion that democracy is little more than a financial inefficiency. Ahead of elections this month, the prime minister continues to rely on the mantra that you can't make an economic omelette without silencing a few eggs. Thus it is that opposition parties are bullied, their leaders persecuted and their supporters intimidated. True, a smattering of democratic pretence has been added to the proceedings, but Lee, like his father before him, has manifestly failed to loosen the political reins. Aiming for a clean sweep in the poll, Lee has even sunk to suing opponents who dared to compare his manner of government to the running of Singapore's opaque National Kidney Foundation.

i'd say he totally deserves it. Just look at the way the ge06 was conducted. unfair upgrading carrots, lawsuits, controlled media, threats of fixing the oppo (note: LHL got away with it when an apology made by his press sec was made. gomez didnt have it so easy) etc.... the list goes on.
immedidately after the elections, all the costs go up. ie transport. our transport industry reports millions in turnover every year, yet the prices continue to climb.
ho ching. would u promote someone to ceo of a national company when he/she keeps on losing millions of the TAXPAYERS money? im not sure about some people, but i wouldnt.
feel free to add to the list.

he picks his battles.
Singapore is beyond hope for the next X number of years once the people voted them back in. Still, there are lots of people who liked the short term treats and choose to ignore long term price hikes and policies that work against their work and family life. People who know the depth of the situations are still fearful for backlash. There's a lot of selective filtering and prefering to look at only past events as prove of ability of the way forward. I would hope that this chance given back to LHL to run the show and hopefully product some results and make policies that work for the people and not against the people all the time.

While I'm not sure if you can sue a human rights group, I can be sure that you can be sued for adding more fuel to the fire.
