Sometimes I feel that SGreans are suffering from the N korea syndrome. We are trained from young to read, listen and see wad our govt wants us to see. Together with the evergoing barrage of propaganda like eg. NDP seeing LKY crying on those black white films for many yrs, those chn8 dramas with hidden agenda in them, many SGreans have become totally myopic of the progress in the other parts of the world. So much so that many think our system are flawless and envy of the world.
This is like an article i read on Newsweek before. It is abt the interviewing of a NK defector. In NK all possessions of VCD/DVD/VHS are prohibited and only govt owned stations are allowed. The defector claims she managed to watch some smuggled VCD from SK and she cried. why? Bcos from young she was taught the SKreans are impovished and they have to resort to eating their children for survival. They were also taught NK was a highly developed nations and their citizens are well fed. It is only after the VCD that she found out the truth and made her want to defect.
Isn't wad the NK woman's situation similar to SG. From young we are taught that only PAP can make SG successful, and only PAP can make SG go on for many years, and all criticism towards PAP is slanderous, and the person is a dangerous deviant.
So lionoisy, b4 u post next time, spent a minute to think out of the PAP box and try to understand the true crux of the issue -

Apparently, lionnoisy's response to anything that is wrong with our system and soceity is to tell himself that things could be much worse and studiously pretend whatever is wrong does not happen.
Of course, at the same time he has plenty of steam to harp on the issues of other countries, of which mostly don't even concern us. What is the most questionable thing about his Australian thread is indeed, does the average Singaporean who goes to Australia really get the culture "shock" he describes or do most of them already know what they are stepping into, that they have already weighted the pros and cons of the land and have long made a choice which was far more balanced them him.
Notice for all his ability to use hyperlinks and speak in one-liners, he has nothing to say about the most relevant current events that are being discussed in here, such as the pay rise issues and other related stuff?

At the end of the day, lionnoisy looks into the past as a justification for the present. Many here with clearer heads realize that to look into the future to realize where Singapore is headed and why they don't really want it that way. -
