a) Are you proud to be a Singaporean?
No. Used to be when I was much younger but don't think so now when I realized that Singapore is too controlled a place for my comfort level.
b) What makes you feel a sense of belonging to Singapore?
Are you kidding? Singapore has now become a working place. No longer a 'home'. Favoritism on FT makes me think the FT way: make good money here and then leave.
c) What changes do you hope to see in Singapore that would make you feel more attached to the country?
Diff to say. It's the overall package of things and factors. Current policies and administration have tilted the scales towards 'unbelonging' and 'pragmatism' which leaves no feelings for the country.
d) Are you confident that Singapore will have a bright future?
Yes. With more inclusion of diverse ideas. If it's only from PAP, this bright future thingy will be a long way to go.
e) Are you confident that your personal aspirations can be fulfilled in Singapore?
I doubt it.![]()

a) Yes, though not as much as I wish I was. I believe we have a (intrinsically) good people, and well-meaning leaders (save LHL and increasingly, LKY). THe main problem with us is our system, and how we choose to clutch to straws in order to preserve it. We - or at least the govt - drags external props to support it e.g communism, war on terror yada yada.Originally posted by zaxis:We would therefore like to invite you to a discussion group where we would be delighted to hear your valuable views and opinions on the following:

yes i am.
b) What makes you feel a sense of belonging to Singapore?
my family, my friends, my memories here.
c) What changes do you hope to see in Singapore that would make you feel more attached to the country?
i hope to see a change in the way things are being done here... i want the people to actually have a say in the running of their OWN country. currently, this is not the case as only one group of people's opinions are counted- the people in white.
d) Are you confident that Singapore will have a bright future?
if you had asked me this in 1970, i would have said yes. now, nationbuilding years are over, however our country is still harping on nationbuilding strategies. ie, a parliment cannot function properly with opposition members inside because time would have to be spent fixing them.
My answer is NO. unless we see a change soon. we are moving into a new phase, no more nationbuilding.
e) Are you confident that your personal aspirations can be fulfilled in Singapore?
no comment.. personal aspirations is too broad a spectrum.
