Correct, but aft all these housing loans, there might not be enough for retirementOriginally posted by dragg:CPF is important for everyone with housing loans. every dollar counts.
To become mature citizens, we have to break away from the total reliance of govt aids. Therefore we need to stop being totally dependent on CPF contributions during our twilight years.Originally posted by dragg:CPF is important for everyone with housing loans. every dollar counts.

This fact is clear, yet the people chose to give them their vote in the last elections. It's sad that many among the people are silent supporters of the Ruling party even with all this self-serving going on.Originally posted by dragg:they are always full of excuse when it comes to benefits of the general working population.

Easier said then done... 797 have fooled the people with relentless propaganda so that as far as the masses are concerned; voting them is a no brainer, it is common sense.Originally posted by BillyBong:This fact is clear, yet the people chose to give them their vote in the last elections. Until the majority of the people learn to wield their ballot with more conviction, it will be years before change sets in.
To that end, a credible alternative must be available. That renewal process has at least been superb - with the coming of the WP.
Let's hope more and more people start to accept the truth and make the bold move - to consider an alternative.
Precisely! These bloodsuckers own alot of properties. Of course, they cannot allow properties' price to come down. The gov had over priced the land and no way they are going to bring down the price of properties or land cost....they own and stucked with lots of properties in hand, especially, the individuals that privately own and the few giant corporate land owners. These blood suckers knew that properties in singapore have come to stagnant. So... to enhance the properties and land values further...they had to introduce Casinos into singapore which many people had objected.Originally posted by casino_king:They first tell you that they price HDB so high is OK because it is affordable... your CPF can pay. They tell you that property price so high they need not do anything about it because, it is affordable, your CPF can pay it.
WTF everything they do is for the rich and powerful and we are supposed to eat grass.

Has absolute corruption taken place in Singapore?

Any good alternative is hounded like animal.
The one two blow makes it impossible. Until honorable people come into power, Sgporeans are doomed to suffer.

As long as you continue in your simplistic ways of thinking, then you will never win the war.Originally posted by BillyBong:Of course, one has to rise above the mundane and govt yes-men to become greater than the whole.
If we continue to vote the govt for fear of reprisals, then we will forever be slaves to our own psychological trauma. This silent form of blackmail has been used effectively by our govt, the same way Ronald Spiers of Band of brothers fame used his 'prisoner massacre' legend to inspire both fear and respect among his troopers.
By admitting to nothing, the govt perpetuates the belief that some who have voted against the govt have indeed suffered quiet reprisals against them and their families; only in a decadent dictatorship have such atrocities been committed, here cases such as the wrongful arrest and detention of brave men like Chia Thye Poh are permitted under the LAW of the INTERNAL SECURITY ACT.
It's time to grow out of this rdiculous constraint and dubious fear. Low Thia Khiang is trying fervently to rubbish such nonsense among the people and instill self-belief.
Hopefully more people will listen and something good might come out of the next elections.
Were you not the one who coined the term "wait for 'THE ONE' to rise up in 797? (whatever that means)Originally posted by casino_king:As long as you continue in your simplistic ways of thinking, then you will never win the war.
"wait for "THE ONE" to rise up in 797?" Wait until when? Will it be too late and all the assets in Sgp already transferred into the hands of or controlled by a particular family?
Let's look at your assumptions:
"fear of reprisals"
Is the war won and lost because of only the fear of reprisals? Think deeper. Think more, do more.

As what the Union and Manpower Minister have said, the CPF cannot be resolved due to the wages or fear of loss of job.
When you hired a fool, he will behave like a fool, look like a fool and sprout nonsense like a fool.

At a reduced vote counts of 66.6% from the last election result, the ministers still made exaggerated claim that they have scored a strong mandate.Originally posted by dragg:they always say that singaporeans agree to all the pay cuts and belt tightening. kns, as if we have a choice.

It's already proven that CPF contributions alone are woefully insufficient to sustain retired individuals in the long run; we have to start looking after ourselves and exploring the market opportunities for investments and means to develop our own personal kitty.
If we continue to hold the hand that feeds you, the nanny-mentality will forever remain a spectre in our lives.
Unless we choose to break the stranglehold.

I am disappointed with this statement from the government. I agree that it may be a little premature to completely restore CPF cuts. As the recent downturn on the stock market shows, there are latent concerns about the huge budget deficits in the US and the health of its economy.
However, the economy has turned for the better as the government has said many times before the elections. It is time for a small restoration of CPF cuts, even though it may not be wise to restore completely at this time.
It may be just a symbolic gesture, but nevertheless an important one to demonstrate that the government is prepared to give back when things turn for the better.
How else can the government expect the people to be on their side when they need to cut wages again in future?
Let me rephrase:Originally posted by pearlie27:"break away from the total reliance of govt aids"?
save for the extreme poor, i don't think there is any Singaporean who is on total reliance on govt aids.
and Sir, CPF contributions are not govt aids. they are our hard earned money! cutting CPF means workers are paid less for the same amount of work they put in. in other words workers become cheaper to employers.
"If we continue to hold the hand that feeds you, ..."
i don't know about you but myself and, i believe, most working Singaporeans have no 'hand that feeds' us. we earn our own living.
