Suffice to say that it was the SAF policy regarding Malays that got me disillusioned with the ruling party in the first place. As for my family and friends, they're evenly split in both camps.
I won't go into details. Anyway, it seems out of point to be talking about it when the issue we're discussing here is estate upgrading. -

The people of Hougang and Pasir Ris are not stupid.
They know that even if PAP had won these two wards, upgrading will not be immediate. It will take some time.
But first the PAP must punish the wards for not supporting them previously. Priority will go the wards that had supported the PAP all the time.
Secondly, they must maximise their win by delaying upgrading till the next GE so as to dangle the same carrot again. This time they will promise to complete proposed projects that are on the slate.
So the promise of upgrading is actually an empty promise as upgrading will eventually come to the two wards, PAP or otherwise.
Kudos to the voters of Hougang and Pasir Ris! -

Going by the PAP's logic and reasoning on this upgrading issue, when there is a SARS epidemic or some national disaster hitting Singapore, will the government send help first only to PAP wards and leave the opposition wards last on the list?
I am surprised even ST reporters are writing against this policy questioning the PAP's rationale in this matter. -

During the last GE,PAP candidates in opp. wards said they got minister concerned support for upgrading in their wards if they were elected.Since the minister supported upgradings for these 2 wards, that means they are elegible for estate upgrading.But now the minister refuses the upgrading because the PAP candidate didn't win the election.That means the upgrading project was used as a bribe for the voters of the 2 opp. wards to vote for PAP.It doesn't not mean the 2 wards are not in line of the queue for upgrading.

well said. in fact it is only those selfish ppl who wil think the PAP policy are righteous. i myself is living in hongkah but i would not mind if hougang get upgrade first as long as it is base on needs rather than politically driven policy which try to differentiate singaporean into 2 groups. i fear the the PAP are no longer driving singaporea into one nation one singapore rather one nation 2 system.
to all those residents who voted MBT into parliament. i strongly hope you guys can think carefully whether such ppl would bring singapore forward or divide us.
i can only remember the not so good policy he made such as COE, ERP, world cup 2010 goal ( a stupid dumbass would not even set such goals), now most notoriously one nation 2 system. please tell me what policy he made make us better?? -
MBT maybe a scapegoat carrying out the policy. The real master of the plan could be some one else up there.

In theory, it is good to place the needs of the nation first. However, we need to be practical here. If we upgrade the opposotion wards, the opposition will say "look, vote for us, the PAP government will still take care of you".
Therefore, we need to ensure that our supporters of the upgrading programme are rewarded first. -

If the criteria for choosing the estates for upgrading is fair,how can the PAP supporters say some estates in opp. wards to be upgraded earlier is unfair?

SINGAPORE : National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan has rejected Mr Chiam See Tong's request for $80m as money for upgrading in the Potong Pasir constituency.
Mr Chiam wrote to Mr Mah last Wednesday asking how he could get access to these funds as his town council was planning improvement works, especially lift upgrading.
But Mr Mah said Mr Chiam should proceed, using his own town council's funds.
In his reply to Mr Chiam, which was copied to media, Mr Mah explained that the $80m upgrading package was proposed by PAP candidate Sitoh Yih Pin as his plan for the constituency if he was elected.
Since the majority of Potong Pasir voters rejected Mr Sitoh and his plan, Mr Mah said the issue of funding no longer arises.
He added that as Mr Chiam claimed during the election campaign that the Potong Pasir Town Council had enough funds to do lift upgrading for all the blocks in his constituency over the next five years, he should therefore proceed to do so.

Actually,the majority of the opp. wards don't mind their estates upgrade last since they didn't vote for PAP.Of course,they would also be happy if their estates given a fair chance to be upgraded and when they are upgraded.When they were happy, of course they would vote for PAP next time.
It is the fair ppl think that it is principlely wrong to discriminate against opp. wards for HDB upgrading.
