Are Singaporeans Discourteous?

i'd have to agrre that older citizens, especially grumpy upper-middle-aged women and men are the most discourteous of all, and also the scum of society eg. ah bengs & ah lians, mat punks(note term punk, meant to seperate these bastards from our normal malay compatriots) and of course the ultra-conservative singaporean fella who never utters a word
ultra conservative doesnt meant rude. there is no wrong being ah beng or ah lian. at least they try to be themselves instead of someone who put up a hypocritical face all the time just to please the caucasian. -

change your own attitude and the world will have one scum, descourteous bastard less, and it will be a better place to live in, for you and for all of us. -
Courtesy is cultivated in upbringing with education. wealth's impact on courtesy is indirect. Families who dont have to share a bowl of porridge will have time to teach their children and send them to schools. In Taiwan there are many courteous people but not rich. Their grandfather were rich before they came to Taiwan. Courtesy was part of their family upbringing. There are now many Taiwanese, became rich overnight by converting their tea plantations into industrial land, they remains rowdy, and courtesy is certainly not their trait, to most of them.
I have also seen many Indonesians in Singapore, don't look very rich to me, came out of takashimaya with only one bag, speak a few words of Mandarin and hardly any english, but extremely courteous and polite. Some other indonesians, whole body branded goods, moving around believing that it is their right to have the right of way.
The same has happened all over Asia.
Are the older folks in singapore most discourteous, meaning the younger Singaporean more courteous? than I would be happy for the future singapore would have more courteous people. Will a crowded singapore force our people to be more tolerant to one another? if that happens, it would still not be a bad place to live.
Singaporeans are generally more educated, and financially can-do, I can't see how much more educated we need to be, or wealth we need to accumulate before we start saying that we should now start to be more graceous and courteous, not required by the government but make it our very own trait.
I really dread it when it is the young and educated, financially ok singaporeans who are rude and yet they think others are discourteous. -

All forums have their guidelines and code of conduct but it is only in fairy tales do you get everyone abidding to all the rules.
We come to forum to air our views as well as listen to others'. We must therefore be prepared to meet all kinds of people and be tolerant of them. Otherwise, we can't even begin to have a dialogue not to say to enjoy the freedom of expression the forum provided us. -

but anyhow, to side track a bit, from a purely economic point of view, the rich and poor gap is simply a social consequence that we have to accept, there shall always be haves and have-nots in a society, some people shall have to slog all their lives for pittance, while others, like yourself, can be successful entreprenuers ... Just try this every day. U press the lift for someone who takes his/her time to slowly walk in, then without a word of thanks, just stand there, while u press the button.
And then, u open the door, and let other people walk through 1st, see if they say thanks or not.
If u have the Readers' Digest talking about this issue, i suggest u go and read it. One person gave the reason why she never help is because she scared her nails spoilt. What a good reason. It is not due to our government that is making us the talking point overseas, its because of people like Miss-Oh-My-Nails-so-precious.
Sometimes, i wonder if singaporeans are born with their faces in their arses or not. I know, not all singaporeans are like that, but the people staying at my block, and studying in my school is enough.
With people like that, who needs enemies? -
