Mah Bow Tan rejects Chiam See Tong's request for $80m upgrading funds

SINGAPORE : National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan has rejected Mr Chiam See Tong's request for $80m as money for upgrading in the Potong Pasir constituency.
Mr Chiam wrote to Mr Mah last Wednesday asking how he could get access to these funds as his town council was planning improvement works, especially lift upgrading.
But Mr Mah said Mr Chiam should proceed, using his own town council's funds.
In his reply to Mr Chiam, which was copied to media, Mr Mah explained that the $80m upgrading package was proposed by PAP candidate Sitoh Yih Pin as his plan for the constituency if he was elected.
Since the majority of Potong Pasir voters rejected Mr Sitoh and his plan, Mr Mah said the issue of funding no longer arises.
He added that as Mr Chiam claimed during the election campaign that the Potong Pasir Town Council had enough funds to do lift upgrading for all the blocks in his constituency over the next five years, he should therefore proceed to do so.

Why bother talking about it?
After election, with another fresh 5 year term, they can be and sound as tough and arrogant as they so please - until the next GE.
When election results drops dangerously low in percentage, I wouldn't be surprised they do away with election altogether! -
CST should write in and ask if PP residents who didn't vote PAP can be exempted from tax instead, not about upgrading.

And MBT once said in Parliament that Chiam could NOT use his TC's fund for lift upgrading. Gee I'm not surprised.

Yeah, PAP is screwed up. But my place always walk over, no chance to vote for oppositions yet. -

He is seeking an official response from the ever-arrogant Mah, to show the people that the Ruling Party is as mercenary as ever, that things have not changed, and to indrectly mock PM Lee's post-election drive of 'closing ranks, and working together'. -

If a nod is given for the $80m request then the next moment you will hear is opposition saying... 'it doesnt matter anyway, vote for us and you will still have a PAP government.'
