Australia allowed his extradition to singapore, only on the condition he doesn't get the death penalty. So no death sentence lor, simple as that.Originally posted by LittleTiger:are we lower class citizen?
thought killing in spore = dead sentence?
Apparently they realised that fact, 2 days back, they corrected her sentence, so she can now apply to have slightly less sentence than mccrae.Originally posted by equlus84:The funny thing is that his female accomplice gets 12 years he gets onli 10 years.
If you murder someone and manage to run to Australia, you will also escape the death sentence cos the Auzzies cannot extradite you unless Singapore promises not to impose the death penalty.Originally posted by gill_hfc:So in other words if you're a foreigner and you kill a local and run off to your home country you will not be hanged if you're brought back to singapore. However, a local who murders another local will definately be hanged!! hmm i must be dumb in understanding the logic here..could someone please explain the logic of our brilliant legal system in this case?![]()
Don't you read the newspapers? Can't you get your facts straight? The racist Australian government will not extradite this murderer unless Singapore promises not to impose the death penalty. If we refuse, he will go scot free...which is worse?Originally posted by killstyle:Pappy claims we have independent courts. And yet they can promise the Western govts that this murderer will not be sentenced to death so that they can bring him back to SG. How does pappy know that the trial will not result in a death sentence? How does pappy know that he will not be charged for murder but manslaughter? Because pappy called up the Dpp and told him what charge to make. Then pappy calls up the judge and tells him what sentence to give
You miss the point entirely. The scum was initally charged with manslaughter which carries life imprisonment. Theres absolutely no problem with the Australian government had we proceeded with the manslaughter charge because he would skip the hangman's noose anyway. But for some reason he got the charges downgraded even further to culpable homicide which meant he gets a slap on the wrist (considering he took 2 lives). Why??Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Don't you read the newspapers? Can't you get your facts straight? That's why he was charged with manslaughter, not murder. The judge cannot impose a death penalty in that case since the charge is manslaughter.
If you are not happy with the verdict, go and demonstrate in front of the Australian embassy and bycott all Australian products. Vent your anger at the right party, for goodness sake!
Try posting that at stomp.com.sg, see what they reply you.Originally posted by gohkatkat:what happens if say a singaporean slays an australian and then made it back home to singapore......but australia wants to extradite him back for punishment??? how will such a situation be handled??.....
You got your facts wrong. When we talk of manslaughter in Singapore, we mean a charge under Section 304 of the Penal Code that puts a maximum sentence of 10 years for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.Originally posted by Viper52:You miss the point entirely. Its obvious with the slate of recent cases that our "independent" courts are very lenient with politically sensitive cases involving foreigners (the Filipino body parts maid and now McCrea).
So much for being tough on crime. Chickenshit courts.
you sounds liek some bloody FT ah neh.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:You got your facts wrong. When we talk of manslaughter in Singapore, we mean a charge under Section 304 of the Penal Code that puts a maximum sentence of 10 years for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
As for your charge of manslaughter that carries life imprisonment...do educate me and pray tell me which section of the Penal Code that comes from?
If a bloody FT ah neh knows more about your laws than you do, what does that make you?Originally posted by killstyle:you sounds liek some bloody FT ah neh.
