Household income up by average 1.8% a year from 2000 to 2005: survey
By Noor Mohd Aziz, Channel NewsAsia
SINGAPORE: Singapore's household income has been increasing by about 1.8 percent a year over the past five years.
On average, it rose from $4,940 a month in 2000 to $5,400 in 2005.
According to the 2005 General Household Survey, the top 30 percent of households had their income increased by an average of between 2.2 and 2.8 percent a year.
But the lowest 30 percent actually saw theirs decline over the same period.

Is this a clear indication that the policies are meant to make the rich richer at the expense of the poor?
These so called Rebates; what the HELL can they do? Each time they increase Electric bills, they come out with these rebates to look good. What good does it do, if I take $1 from you and treat you to a 0.50 cents packet of sweets??? Or is it like give you $500 take back $1500 later through all sorts of increases?Originally posted by blueheeler:I'm trying to be fair here:

SINGAPORE: 700,000 HDB households will get between $60 and $200 of Utilities-Save, or U-Save rebates to help them with their utilities charges.
Lower income families living in smaller flat-types will be given higher rebates.
For example, those from 1-room flats will receive $200.
The U-Save Rebates will be given out in 2 lots - $100 next month (July 2006) and the other $100 in January next year.
Households can also roll over unused rebates to subsequent months.
The U-Save rebates, which will cost the Government $60m, are part of the $2.6b Progress Package announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in February this year.
The other components of the Progress Package, including the Growth Dividends, the Workfare Bonus, the 40th Anniversary NS Bonus and the CPF top-ups to the Special/Retirement and Medisave Accounts have been given out from 1 May 2006.
